Three players claim three big prizes this week

Two $1 million prizes and a $200,000 scratch-off prize highlight a week that brought more than $22 million in prizes to lottery players across the state.

Huntersville resident Mamie Bynum, a retired clerical supervisor, plans to use the $1 million prize she won playing The Color of Money game to buy a car, save for her grandchildren’s education and help fund her retirement.

Shaileshkumar Patel of Sanford said he will use the $1 million prize he won playing the $1,000,000 Jackpot game to pay bills and save for his son’s education. {Read more}

The third winner of the week was Pamela Ortiz, a supervisor at a tobacco company in Wilson. She said she plans to take a vacation after winning the top prize in the $200,000 Jackpot game.

Overall, instant scratch-off players in North Carolina won more than $15 million in prizes since Thursday, Oct. 16. During that time, players of draw games won $7 million in total prizes.

Twelve prizes awarded this week were worth between $10,000 and $86,084. In alphabetical order by the winner’s hometown, they are:

Kinston - Charles Hoover won $10,000 playing $10,000 Jackpot
Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Daniel Wilson won $10,000 playing Powerball (9-20-14)
Randleman - Michael Cranford won $10,000 playing $5,000 a Week for Life!
Statesville - Christopher Davis won $86,084 playing Carolina Cash 5 (10-14-14)
Wilson - Herman Batts $50,000 won playing $50,000 Jackpot
York, S.C. - Charlotte Chavis won $10,000 playing Millionaire 7’s
