Davidson County man: $5,000 win means big Christmas for wife

A lucky lottery player from Lexington who won $5,000 playing Carolina Pick 4 said the prize money means a big Christmas for his wife.

“I told my wife that I was going to win,” Robert Swing said as he claimed his prize money at the lottery’s regional claim center in Greensboro. He added that he played the last four digits of his late aunt’s phone number to win. “She blessed me from heaven,” he said.

Swing, a videographer, bought the winning ticket for the Dec. 6 evening drawing at the Lockland Citgo on Lockland Avenue in Winston-Salem.

We congratulate Mr. Swing and wish his family and all of yours a very Merry Christmas.

Reminder: If you play the lottery this week, please remember that like all state offices, our regional offices will be closed from Dec. 24-26. If you win a big prize during that time, your check will be waiting for you on Monday!

Again, we can only name a winner once he or she completes the claim process. Until then, we can't say a person is a winner for sure or not. We share info as soon as we have it! :)

Why can't NC come out with a game like "Big 6" or "6 to win", something along that line for folks with a valid NC ID, or valid NC address online. I know I would buy more tickets like I use to if you would decrease the numbers to pick from and guarantee a winner almost every drawing for 2 draws a week. You folks are losing a lot of money because I use to spend 20.00 a week on drawings, but now I buy the min 1 ticket a drawing for mega millions, and 1 ticket for powerball a week since you went up to 2.00. This is a NC education lottery althought most the monet don't go for education like we were told when we voted for it. NC Lottery

I'm beginning to think that people are hooked on scratchoffs because you guys let us win on our favorite ticket just enough to keep us playing, then you print nothing but losers afterward. I can win on a ticket one week, but after that, nothing, no matter how many I buy. You guys should be investigated!NC Lottery
The lottery, all its games and practices are monitored and reviewed by independent auditors. It takes a lot of luck to win playing games of chance - the prize money comes from non-winning tickets; that's why a $1, $10 or $20 wager could be worth a $100, $100,000 or $1 million prize :)

If everyone quit playing what would the losers running this sham of a lottery do ? This Monopoly rip off of a game says it all. Collecting all that money for this game and NOT paying out the jackpot. It's a criminal act. Post this one NC NON-EDUCATIONAL lottery. The schools don't benefit enough from this so shut it all down and quit preying on the poor with your advertising.

NCEL is a sorry excuse for a lottery. In a lottery, people are supposed to have a chance to win. You have no chance to win like you promise. Odds are ridiculously against the players. We can only win if you stop printing so many losers! I gave out over forty assorted tickets for Christmas and the few who won only broke even. What a ripoff!NC Lottery
The odds are advertised for all games so that players can decide if they want to take a chance. There is never a guarantee of winning, only a chance to win with lottery games. Prize money comes from non-winning tickets - it takes luck to win :)

I quit! Bought over 27 tickets to give out as gifts, only one $2 and one $1 Winner. How cheap can you get? Im very discouraged with you people.
