A special bonus drawing will be held next month to award North Carolina’s share of the remaining MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB™ (MMC) prize money. Before we get to the details of how that drawing works, we want to follow through on our pledge to share the latest information on MMC. We got a large number of questions from many of you, so here are answers to some of those questions.
Q: Why did the participating state lotteries decide to temporarily halt ticket sales?
A: As you know, prize money comes from ticket sales. That’s why lottery games have to be popular, so that there is enough money to pay out the advertised prizes. Although the Top Prize and Club Prizes were won in just the third-ever drawing for the game, it became clear in the following weeks that there were still not enough ticket sales to fund the advertised prizes, and ticket sales were temporarily halted following the Dec. 26 drawing.
Q: What about the $25 million Top Prize and 22 Club Prizes of $1 million that weren’t won?
A: Everyone who had a ticket for the Dec. 26 drawing had a chance to win the Top Prize and, had it been won, the 23 participating lotteries would have paid out the advertised prizes totaling $47 million. Based on nationwide ticket sales, however, just more than $6.7 million in actual prize money was available after the drawing. So the lotteries agreed to divide the remaining prize money, based on each state’s percentage of ticket sales. North Carolina’s share came to $215,000.
Q: What will happen to North Carolina’s remaining prize money?
In North Carolina, we have decided to give our MMC players a chance to win that remaining prize money in a special bonus drawing to be held on Wednesday, Jan. 21. It will be divided into two $50,000 prizes, ten $10,000 prizes and fifteen $1,000 prizes.
Q: How do I get a chance to win in the MMC Bonus drawing?
A: If you played the game one or more times between Oct. 19 and Dec. 26, and submitted the Lucke-Rewards code for at least one MMC ticket, you are already entered in the drawing. For those that have MMC tickets that have yet to be submitted, make sure to submit them before midnight on Sunday, Jan. 18. The more total tickets you have submitted before the deadline, the more chances you have to win.
Q: How will winners be notified and when will the winners be announced?
A: Similar to Lucke-Rewards drawings and other game-specific second chance drawings, winners will be notified first by e-mail within 48 hours of the drawing date. If necessary, the lottery will call by telephone or send certified mail. A winner’s name can only be announced after he or she responds to notification and completes the claim process. Depending on the winner, that can take days or weeks.
Q: What about the second drawing for Las Vegas trips to the MMC TV game show?
A: That drawing is still scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13. Anyone who completed a Property Set after Nov. 25 – or completes one before the Jan. 6 deadline – will have a chance to win a trip to Vegas. Only a completed Property Set earns an entry into the drawing.
Q: What will happen to the game now?
A: The process of deciding what is next for MMC is ongoing among the states and at the national level. As soon as we have more details, we’ll share that information with you here in the Lucke-Zone.
