Lottery players can use Visa debit with subscription service

We’re pleased to announce that folks who use our subscription service to play our three jackpot games – Powerball, Mega Millions and Carolina Cash 5 – now can buy their subscriptions with a Visa debit card.

The new option starts today. It’s easy to change to the Visa option, if that is your preference. Go to your subscription account in the Lucke-Zone, then go to Wallet, then select Saved Accounts, then look for “Select an account to Add or Delete” function, and use the pull-down menu to select the Visa option and enter your Visa debit card number.

We started the subscription service a year ago as a convenience to those who don’t typically go into traditional lottery retailers to buy tickets or for those who want to ensure their lucky numbers are in each drawing. We added safeguards to ensure that no tickets are sold to anyone who is not physically in North Carolina or to anyone who is under 18, the legal age for playing the lottery. And just as in our traditional retail locations, only debit cards can be used to buy lottery tickets, not any credit cards.

If you’re not familiar with the subscription service, you first have to join the lottery’s Lucke-Zone to access it. You’ll go to a secure part of the site to sign up, complete the identity and age verification and fund your online wallet.

Players then choose which jackpot game they want to play, what numbers they want to use, and the drawings they wish to enter. Subscription players can check on the drawing results by monitoring each of their purchases associated with their account. They will receive email alerts if their lucky numbers are drawn.

Winnings under $600 would be transferred automatically to players’ accounts. Prizes, ranging in value from $600 to $99,999, would still be claimed at one of the lottery’s regional offices and prizes of $100,000 or more at NCEL headquarters in Raleigh.
 
As an added convenience, you automatically earn Lucke-Rewards points on your subscription purchase and no additional ticket entry is required.
Lottery players can’t use the service to buy a single draw ticket or to buy instant scratch-off tickets. A subscription to at least two weeks of drawings for one of the three games is required for any purchase.
 
Responsible play features such as limits on the number of multi-draw tickets that can be purchased are in place as they are with other NCEL games and programs. Players also have the ability to place their own personal limits on their play.
