Biggest instant scratch-off game of the year begins Tuesday

"When is a new $20 scratch-off coming out?" That is a question we hear often. And, heading into First Tuesday March 4, we are happy to say that $4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular is here - and it's biggest instant game of the year. The game gives you the chance to multiply prizes 2X, 5X, 10X, 20X, 50X or even 100X. Besides the chance to multiply prizes, the game features $100 automatic prizes that can be won as well as the chance to win all 20 prizes on the ticket.

The game begins with more than $151 million in total prizes and 1 in 2.96 overall odds of winning. The chances of winning one of the ten $1 million prizes are 1 in 1 million and the odds of winning $4 million are 1 in 2.5 million.

Pop quiz: Who was the 18th President of the United States? Here's a hint - his face is on the $50 bill. OK, if you're still stumped, the answer is Ulysses S. Grant. Why are we talking about this? Because a $5 game called $200,000 Grant is one of three other new games starting Tuesday. It begins with $16.5 million in total prizes and five top prizes of $200,000. Scratching to reveal a "stack of money" symbol wins $50 automatically. Overall odds of winning are 1 in 4.07 and the odds of winning a top prize are 1 in 960,000.

Those of you who like extended play games and a chance to win cash might like Red Line Crossword Tripler. The $3 game features four top prizes of $50,000. If you can use your 18 letters to spell ten of the words in the puzzle area, you win $50,000. Spelling a word that has a red line through it wins three times the corresponding prize. The game has 1 in 4.16 overall odds of winning and 1 in 780,000 odds of winning the top prize.

Tax season isn’t popular with most people, but we’re hoping a $1 game called Rapid Refund will be. It has 12 top prizes of $5,000. After scratching the ticket, if the winning number matches one or more of your numbers, you win up to five prizes. The game starts with more than 1.3 million winning tickets, 1 in 4.91 overall odds of winning, and 1 in 540,000 odds of winning the top prize.

It's like other lottery drawings: The more entries you make, the more chances you have to win; but just one entry gives you a chance to win.

Lets also make it clear that the lottery doesn't put all the top prize tickets into circulation. I know you have the ability to hold back some top prize tickets to meet sales objectives. People are falsely thinking all the top jackpot tickets are available and in circulation! NC Lottery
There are 6,800 retailers in the state, and tens of millions of lottery tickets in circulation at any given time. It is not practical to expect all tickets for all games to be in circulation at any one moment, nor is it even possible for the lottery do that, nor has the lottery ever stated that is how it works. It's the same story in any other state lottery.

If you're talking about notifying winners in Lucke-Rewards drawings compared to web-based subscription, they are two completely different systems. The lottery makes a strong effort to contact L-R winners by e-mail and then telephone and certified mail if necessary.

You can definitely expect more game-specific second-chance drawings... as for MONOPOLY, the final second-chance drawing for each of those four games have been held. The $1 game has ended; the $2, $5 & $10 games are still going.

Can the NC Lottery develop a rule that requires that retailers who sell tickets MUST cash scratch offs under $600. I have experienced buying 2-3 $20 tickets, spending $60 to scratch $200 and for them to say they cannot cash the ticket. I just emphasized I gave them $60 and probably buying another ticket for $20 making it only $120 out of pocket. They claim they have made a "drop" of their cash and cannot retrieve. If they are willing to sell tickets and make money then at a minimum they MUST be required to cash the tickets. If they don't want to play, then take their license. I have to go to grocery stores where I never bought the ticket to get it cashed. NC Lottery
While we encourage retailers to cash tickets, we cannot require them to do so. Our recommendation would be to do exactly what you're doing, visit a grocery store that is more likely to comfortably have the cash on hand to pay you a prize you win.

I am so happy!!!! I went and bought the new Grant 200,000 dollar ticket at Murphy gas in my hometown awhile ago. Came home to scratch it, and to my surprise it was a 200 dollar win for me! First time I have bough a scratch off in about 3 weeks. This was my first ticket I have purchased for that game!! Yee Haw!! It was nice to see 25 dollars on just about all the rows!! Ive entered multiple drawings and bought multiple scratch offs, unfortunately i have yet to win anything over 20$ bout the new 20$ scratch off today and got nothing. im keeping all my pick 3, pick 4, cash 5, and scratch off tix i have bought since the beginning of the year. If i ever win ill be sure to take pictures of the stack i have built up since January 1st, 2014 as well as bring them to Raleigh to show my effort and disappointment with the results NC Lottery
It takes a lot of luck to win playing games of chance, so if you are not enjoying yourself, it might be good to take a break. It doesn't get any easier to win based on past experience, the odds are always something you have to beat to win. So please only play to the level where you are having fun.

The number of play spaces do not impact your odds of winning. Lottery tickets don't have much space on them, and we keep having new information to include on them, like the Lucke-Rewards code, and new bar code for self-scanners.

What time of day are the lucke-zone second chance drawings made? I.E. SweetHeart cash. How long after the drawing are the winners notified and by what means? How long after the winners are notified are the results posted on your website? NC Lottery
Your question is a common one. The drawings are not set for a particular time of day, they are conducted when staff is available to follow the security and drawing procedures. Winners are typically notified within 48 hours of the drawing and results can only be shared after winners respond to notification AND complete the claim process which sometimes takes days or weeks.

well the store where I live hadn't got any new tickets yet either heck the only tickets they got are the 1dallors and 2 dallors they don't even have the color of money or the 5 dallors tickets whats up with that I stop in time to time and they barley have any scratch tickets I ask they tell me they don't know why they haven't got any tickets in the store NC Lottery
Stores rotate in new ticket inventory as the tickets and the space is available. We encourage retailers to put new tickets on sale as soon as possible.

If you have even one entry in a Lucke-Rewards drawing, you have a chance to win. The more entries you make, the more chances you have to win. 643,676 entries were made into that drawing.

We know how many $10 to $4 million WINNING tickets there are, BUT how many NON-WINNING "stuffers" do you all mix in to make a true total count??? NC Lottery
You can figure out the total number of tickets for any instant game by multiplying the number of prizes at any level by the odds of winning them. So, for example, if a game had 1 in 1 million odds of winning one of four top prizes, that would mean there would be 4 million tickets for that game. If the odds of winning at least a break-even prize in that game were 1 in 4, that would mean that 75%, or 3 million of the tickets, would be non-winning tickets. That's where the prize money comes from for winning tickets.

would love to see north Carolina ticket buyers get more back for buying ticket in our state because you don't have to pull your tickets out you just go on line and see that the biggest amount you can win, no gets it how can this be if the ticket sold it nc every week only win 10,000 or down and you check our boarder and the pay out is more why is this do we need to cross the lines to buy tickets mega and power ball or is our paid out smaller than other states

In batches. For example, there are more than 10 million total tickets for the new $4M Multiplier Spectacular game; it would be impossible for all of the tickets to be in stores at once. As retailers sell out, they order more from us and we ship 'em out.

I went to 6 different stores in the Newton area and all of them did not have the new tickets or room for the new tickets! Whats up with that? Its like advertising for a new movie to come out and them saying Sorry we dont have that movie or the room to show it when the release date comes. Would it be possible for the NC Lottery to list the number of entries submitted for second chance drawings once the entry period has ended but before the actual drawing? It would be nice to know the odds, for example I have 88 entries in the SweetHeart drawing, it'd be nice to know if my chances were 88 out of 800,000 or 88 out of 80,000,000. It would also help me in selecting what future drawings I would enter being the number of entries most likely varies depending on prize and entry amount. Thanks! NC Lottery

Are all of the scratch tickets distributed immediately upon the beginning of the game? In other words, are all of the wining tickets actually at a retailer now, or are some not even printed yet? NC Lottery
All the tickets are printed at once, but even with ~6,800 retailers statewide, there is no way for the millions of tickets to all be distributed at once; as retailers sell through tickets, they reorder and more tickets are shipped out.

I bought 300 worth of tickets Color of Money, from 000 to 010 no winner ticket number 11 was a BIG $20 winner. No other winners from 12-29. But the ticket says 1:3.45 NOT...What' wrong with that picture. NC Lottery

Game 198 is the same ticket as game 395 as far as the top prize and the name (JUMBO BUCKS). However (198) has one top prize and game (395) has eight! How do you know what you are buying from a machine? This is a bad idea and misleading the public. NC Lottery
The old version of Jumbo Bucks is ending in the process of being picked up. The game had to be re-issued with the new barcode for the self-check ticket scanners.

Glad to see Jumbo Bucks back again!! Will you guys ever do Cash Spectacular again? or did people win tooo much on it? Can you guys do more games like Jumbo bucks that pay $750,000 or better without the 20 year option? It is better to win the Jumbo Bucks top prize vs. lets say 50X the cash that pays out 1mil. There is zero decision on the part of the lottery where a winning ticket will show up. When the tickets are printed, winning tickets are distributed at random throughout the entire game so that nobody knows where a winner is until it is scratched :-) Good luck!!!

Still waiting to win something I enjoy playing but keep buying multiple tickets like 10-15 $10 tickets on the same roll then to get a $10 or $15 winner.same results on $20 tickets. Just finished doing that earlier color of money & jumbo bucks to mention the lastest. It's not any easier or harder to win the lottery depending on where you live. There are more than 9 million people in North Carolina and more than 6,800 stores that sell lottery tickets. It takes a lot of luck to beat the odds and win a big prize.
