Triple-digit numbers are among the most popular with Pick 3 players. Thursday night, folks with the combination 2-2-2 saw their lucky numbers come up, leading to more than $2.4 million in prizes. In all, Pick 3 players won more than $4.7 million since June 6.
They weren't the only draw game players to win big. While Pick 4 players racked up more than $833,000, a pair of Carolina Cash 5 players claimed big jackpots.
Scott Harrison, a sales representative from Charlotte, made a stop for iced tea at the Wilco on East Caswell Street in Wadesboro – and wound up walking out with a Cash 5 ticket that turned out to be worth more than $695,419 in the June 5 drawing. “I honestly couldn’t believe it,” Harrison said. “I’m ecstatic, elated and overwhelmed.”
This week's other Cash 5 jackpot winner is a retiree who lives in the opposite corner of the state, in Halifax County. Jerry Hawkins of Roanoke Rapids won $165,395 in Wednesday's drawing. “I went to the store the next day and asked the clerk to print out the winning numbers,” Hawkins said. “I said ‘I’ve got one. I’ve got two. No, I’ve got three.’ Then the clerk picked up the ticket and scanned it and told me I had all five numbers. I thought I had won maybe $500. When he told me what I’d won, my mind just went blank. I couldn’t believe it.”
The $89,987 Cash 5 jackpot won in the June 7 drawing has yet to be claimed. The lucky ticket was sold at the Wilco on U.S. 64 East in Columbia in Tyrell County.
A pair of players scratched their way to six-figure wins.
Christopher Vickers, a general contractor from Charlotte, plans to purchase his first home after scratching off the $150,000 top prize in the White Hot 5’s game. “I’m going to get a little house and just pay it off,” Vickers said. “I’m not going to worry about renting ever again. This really is a life-changing thing for me. It still hasn’t really hit me.”
Laura Luis, a resident of Yadkinville, said the $100,000 she won playing Mega Bucks would allow her to take a vacation to Mexico. “I’ve liked playing Mega Bucks for a while,” she said. “It’s just a fun game. But now I like it even more.”
Ten more players won big instant prizes this week. They are:
- Amy Clarke of Wilmington: $50,000 (Jumbo Bucks)
- James Martin of Elizabeth City: $50,000 ($50,000 Lucky Numbers)
