Like lottery players across the state, we are always looking forward to finding out who wins big prizes. This week, winners from Leland in Brunswick County and Laurinburg in Scotland County happened to scratch-off the biggest prizes ofa the week.
We begin with Amy Franke, a sales representative and mother of two from Leland in Brunswick County. After a stop at the Buy and Go on Ploof Road in her small town, her $5 Green & Gold ticket turned out to be worth $150,000. “I looked at my ticket every day after winning because I still couldn’t believe it,” Franke said.
Another six-figure winner is Ila Patel, a resident of Laurinburg in Scotland County. While on a trip to Holly Springs to visit her daughter, Patel bought a $5 Ultimate Crossword ticket. She didn’t realize how much she won until she got to the lottery’s claim center in Raleigh: $100,000. “I could not believe it,” Patel recalled. “I guess I am a winner,” she said at the time.
Wednesday’s $376,407 Cash 5 jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold at the Waterfront Mini Mart on Park Drive in Washington in Beaufort County. We can’t wait to meet whoever bought the winning ticket.
A pair of players scored $50,000 apiece playing instant games. They are James Bondurant of Reidsville and Charles Crumpler of Fayetteville, who won playing Juinor Big Ol’ Bucks and $50,000 Lucky Numbers, respectively.
