Two lottery players added their names to the list of the state's biggest winners this week.
Barry Gaines of Kannapolis bought a $4,000,000 Multiplier ticket that turned out to be worth $1 million. “I had a feeling that one day I’d hit it big,” Gaines said as he collected his winnings Monday morning. “I just don’t know how to explain it. It feels great.”
Rudolph Laviner of Wagram in Scotland County hit Monday's Carolina Cash 5 jackpot for $158,172. “I was at work when I saw that I had the winning numbers,” Laviner said. “I shouted across the hall to my coworkers that I had won. I couldn’t quite believe it.” Laviner said he had been playing the same numbers for the past three weeks.
In all, lottery players across the state won $14.9 million playing instant games and more than $4.1 million playing draw games, totaling more than $19 million in prizes. Thirteen prizes won or awarded were worth between $10,000 and $53,732. The winners and the games they played are:
