Tickets split $937,346 jackpot, largest in more than two years

Wednesday’s Cash 5 jackpot will be split after tickets sold at stores more than 250 miles apart matched all the numbers drawn to win $468,673 apiece.

One ticket was sold in the small town of Arden in Buncombe County at Mountain Energy on Hendersonville Road. The other ticket was sold at the Wilco on North Reilly Road in Fayetteville.

The winning numbers were: 4-12-23-26-36. Players with winning tickets have 180 days to claim prizes.

The odds of winning the jackpot are always 1 in 575,757. But as the prize grows, so do the number of tickets sold, which increases the chances that one or more tickets will match all five numbers.

We look forward to meeting the lucky winners to award each nearly half a million dollars in prize money.

The lottery is all for fun they know exactly what they are doing. They don't allow know one to win the powerball for a while and then it go up and up. then someone from other state win nc lottery. so they will be tax there in michgan and here in nc .

I agree, if you match 2 numbers you should win more than 1 dollar. The math seems loppsided. If you match 2, you should at least get 3.00. Three numbers should at least get you 8.00. But I had the mega ball number an matched 1 number and only won 2.00. Its making people not want to play much.

I agree that with Cash 5, two should at least win $5 and three correct at $15. Change would re-ignite interest. $1 for two correct doesn't do much for interest.

Spent $32 on this game Wednesday night and another $20 on the Cash 5 on Tuesday night. One thing I can say is... It doesn't matter how many tickets you purchase.. If it's not your time.. It ain't coming out

I matched 3 the night before the jackpot was won and only got $4. its hard to get two. I once however got 4 and i play way too much to not win more often. maybe get rid of a few higher number balls. make it more fair. same with scratch offs, I spend 1000's and don't win hundreds! after all these years, it is really getting old. I seem to win more in SC than in NC though I seldom play there!

In the ticket entry section, on the winners notification posting column, why is there still listing of winners dating back to 2012? The list is getting really long to check to see if you have won and is there anyway to shorten up the list to just this year?NC Lottery
We've had similar requests. The folks who manage the Lucke-Zone read the blog and see comments. We understand it could be improved :)

Why don't they raise the winnings on the amount of numbers that are matched, meaning the ticket cost a dollar if u match 2 numbers all u win is a dollar, of u match 3 number u win 5 or 6 dollars buy if u match 4 numbers u get any were from a couple of Hundreds to 3 or 4 hundreds it seems a Lil off.

Just read this-As we prepare for the Powerball game changes, subscription purchases for Powerball are not available after 9:59 p.m. September 30 through October 3, 2015. Powerball purchases will resume at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2015. So if you want to get a ticket for the final drawing of the old PB you'll have to brave the rain, unless you have already gotten one from the comfort of your home. I'm going to try my luck online next week.

Well, I didn't win nothing at all on my three dollars i won on Tuesday night Cash 5 drawing! So My wife and I decided to add two more dollars for a total of 5 dollars and my daughter wanted in for 5 more dollars for a total of ten dollars for Wednesday night drawing. Didn't have but one number right on just one ticket. Didn't have any numbers right on the other ticket! So my buying days are over. Don't buy PB or MM at all! When Cash 5 builds up again over the 300,000 mark, might ask wife to let's play 5 bucks on it! Good Luck LZ members!

How come the jackpot went down from $952k to $937k?NC Lottery
The jackpot is always estimated based on anticipated ticket sales. Many factors go into that estimate. One possible reason ticket sales weren't quite as high as expected could be that folks who typically play Cash 5 might have decided to divert some of their dollars to buying Powerball tickets :-)
