Thanksgiving has come and gone. But players who won over the holiday weekend are still celebrating.
Hal Thompson of Cary waited until the big meal to share the news of his Powerball win with his family. “I got kind of lucky," he recalled saying. "If 14 had been 16, I would have won $90 million. But I did win a hundred grand. My wife looked at me and said, ‘You’re kidding.’ And I said, ‘No.’”
A pre-Black Friday shopping trip netted Irinea Wilson a Cash 5 jackpot. The Ogdensburg, N.Y. resident was visiting her daughter in New Hanover County when they stopped to buy a ticket for the Thanksgiving drawing. The numbers she chose using family birthdays won the $145,364 jackpot.
Another Cash 5 winner, Penelope Morgan of Raleigh, claimed her jackpot winnings. She purchased her lucky $159,148-winning ticket for Wednesday's drawing at the Harris Teeter on Strickland Road in Raleigh.
The third Cash 5 jackpot winner to collect this week is Franklin Morrison of West End in Moore County. He won $50,000 in the Nov. 27 drawing.
