A mechanic from Leland will start the engines and a retired purchasing supervisor from Burlington will drop the green flag at the upcoming NCEL 200. David Taylor and Sylvester Lewis will get a VIP experience that will drop them in the middle of Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 15 to be a part of the action.
The two lucky winners were selected via a Lucke-Rewards drawing.
Taylor, a sheet metal mechanic from Leland, was selected as the grand marshal of the NASCAR NCEL 200 Camping World Truck Series race. As part of his prize, he will deliver the most famous words in racing: “Drivers, start your engines!”
“This is pretty unbelievable,” said Taylor, whose favorite NASCAR driver is Dale Earnhardt Jr. “I’m going to bring my wife along so she can experience it with me. I’m stoked.”
Sylvester Lewis, a retired purchasing supervisor from Burlington, will be the honorary starter and will drop the green flag from atop the crow’s nest to start the race.
“I've never been to a race before so I don’t know what to expect,” Lewis said. “I never thought I’d be chosen, but you never know when good luck will come your way. That’s why you’ve got to take advantage of every opportunity. This is going to be very exciting.”
The VIP experience includes pit passes, a behind-the-scenes tour and a bird’s eye view of the race from a suite high above the speedway. The winners will also receive VISA gift cards, hotel accommodations on the night of the NCEL 200 and a ticket package to the NCEL 200 Camping World Truck Series race, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All-Star race, NASCAR XFINITY Series History 300 race and the Sprint Cup Series Coca Cola 600 race.
Twenty more winners were randomly selected for the NASCAR race ticket package at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Each will receive a pair of tickets to the NCEL 200 Camping World Truck Series race, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All-Star race, NASCAR XFINITY Series History 300 race and the Sprint Cup Series Coca Cola 600 race.
