Raleigh mom says $200,000 prize will help kids go to college

When we ask lottery winners what they plan to do with their winnings, one of the most common answers is to save for the future. And, for many winners, one of their priorities is using the money to help pay for their own education, or for their kids to go to school.

So when Ana Hernandez of Raleigh told us that her $200,000 prize would help her three children go to college, it wasn’t a surprise – but it didn’t make it any less wonderful. We are so happy that she had good luck on the 20X The Cash ticket she bought at the H&K Petroleum on Capital Boulevard.

A pair of lucky tickets will split Thursday’s $754,482 Cash 5 jackpot. We don’t know yet who the winners are. But we do know the tickets, worth $377,241 apiece, were sold at the Welcome Exxon 1-Stop in Welcome and at the Kingsway on Chapel Grove School Road in Gastonia.

Sixteen more players scratched or matched their way to big prizes this week:

•    Sheldon Gay of Greensboro: $10,000 (20X The Cash)
•    Harold Congdon and William Wynne of Henderson: $20,000 (Diamonds 2X)
•    Aleksandr Ganchenko of Matthews: $10,000 (50X The Cash)
•    Angela Davis of New Bern: $30,000 (Aces & 8’s)
•    William Davis of Oak City: $10,000 ($200 Million Blowout)
•    Jessica Dominguez of Raleigh: $10,000 (100X The Cash)
•    Sally Garner of Robbins: $10,000 (5X The Cash)
•    Debra Farmer of Stantonsburg: $10,000 ($4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular)

From April 10 through April 16, instant players won $17.8 million and draw game players won more than $6.4 million, totaling more than $24.2 million in prizes statewide.

i believe DELIVER SAID about people that work in the locations where the tickets are made. powerball/mega millions,cash5 and the other draws not so much. but they do know where these tickets end up and they ALL have relatives and know somebody in those places. just look how one sided the winners are in this state.

And little do lottery ticket buyer's know the lottery system knows what part of the state they but the big winning scratch tickets in I had a friend who worked for the lottery system in another state and he told me they know were winning packs(top prizes are to be sold)NC Lottery
Not sure where your friend got his information but nobody has any idea where a big-winning ticket will show up at a store that sells N.C. Education Lottery tickets.

about the cash 5 bonus draw. how do you know where the winning tickets are sold before you have a winner? i was looking @ the 4/23 drawing you have the name of the locations where the tickets were sold. there's really no use of the rest of us, not in that area, checking our numbers. is there! Good question. The lottery system can track where the Cash 5 ticket associated with the winning Bonus Bucks entries was sold. Just like the system tracks where winning Powerball jackpot tickets were sold. We hope that sharing the info will help make sure everyone who won claims their prizes.

Sure. Instant tickets come in packs. So the question was how many individual tickets are in each pack.

Just curious, on the Carolina Cash 5 Bonus Bucks Drawing, what happens to the unclaimed money from the drawings going all the way back to 2012? Why is this not put back into the drawings? NC Lottery
Great question. In the case of all unclaimed prizes, half of the money goes back into the prize pool for future games and the other half goes to the state's education fund.

I bought a pack of jumbo bucks when they first came out for 300.00 when it first came out and won only 120.00 dollars, I just bought a pack of 100x for 300.00 and won only 100.00 I live in gastonia and I know what they say it's the luck of the draw, but look at the 17 winners above and see were 15 0f the winners are from it's like that all the time maybe PLAYER SAID I'M ALSO SCEPTICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm with you. i don't wast all of my points on these games if it only takes "ONE" entry. i really "WISH" the lottery would tell everyone how many points the people win with. i really have very little confidence in these games. some say the more entries you have the better the chance/if it takes one play one. ido.

On a side note,I have been trying for this second chance since it started,I enter tickets every day,and nothing yet,but I am going to still try.Everybody wants to know how many tickets are entered to win one of these second chances,well I have not won nothing,but here is what I had for the last contest. X the Cash = 5,086 entries. $4,000 March Madness = 746 entries. $2,500 Winning Wednesday = 476 entries Week for Life Second Chance = 644 entries. congratulations to all the winners. remember next year taxes. don't spend nor give away all of your money to needed friends and family members.(smile) I think two things the lottery needs to print "realistic" follow up stories of these "BIG" winners on their website. since their names are out there it won't hurt to find out about their present status. i also would like to suggest that a partnership be form between the north carolina state credit union /lottery for people to be able to cash in 500ds to 1000k if it is applied to their accounts. it would be safer than in a public store or gas station because so many are getting held up and you don't like the idea of a stranger knowing that you have won that amount. (i know about the regional office in ones area). i just thought this could be another way to help out. i recently cashed in a 500d ticket at a public place and the clerk and i kept looking around to see who was in our space(if you know what i mean). it took all of 20 min. to get the money.

I am disgusted, I bought 10 tickets of 20X the Cash and did not get a winning ticket, I bought 5 of the 50X the Cash and did not get a winner. I bought 5 each of the Truck ticket and the new 7 ticket, no winners. I am going to stop playing for a while.
