If you like jackpot games, you're loving this weekend's Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots.
At $138 million, the Powerball jackpot annuity hasn't been this big since February when it rolled to more than half a billion dollars - and a North Carolina player won a $188 million share of it!
Heading into Friday night, the Mega Millions jackpot is even larger at $194 million. Unless there are one or more perfect tickets, it will surely surpass the $200 million mark.
We'll be rooting for all our North Carolina players in the drawings.
Speaking of North Carolina players, they won more than $29.1 million this week.
The largest win, $3 million, went to James Anthony Jr., a house painter from Cramerton. He plays to use the prize money he won playing the $120 Million Cash game to get a captain’s license and purchase a boat to start a deep sea fishing charter business.
Four $1 million prizes were claimed this week:
- Ronald Thompson of Archdale won playing 100X The Cash
- Jerry Owens of Oakboro won playing $200 Million Blowout
- Darrell Wessinger and Deborah Singletary of Selma won playing $4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular
- A group of Clinton residents won with a Quick Pick ticket in Wednesday's Powerball drawing
Gastonia resident Shanta Johnson matched all five numbers in the May 13 Carolina Cash 5 drawing to win the $357,433 jackpot.
Two Fayetteville players had good luck playing instant scratch-off games:
- Candace Hunt considers May 14 to be her lucky day. Not only is it her birthday, but her son’s, as well. This year, after the birthday celebrations were over, she found yet another reason to smile when she scratched off the $200,000 top prize in the $200,000 Gold Rush game.
- Ronald Monroe, a community advocate, became the first player to win the $150,000 top prize in the Emerald 7’s game.
A pair of players won $150,000 apiece:
- Heather Raimo, an accountant from Pineola, plans to use the $150,000 top prize she won on her MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB ticket to pay bills, save for the future and maybe take a vacation.
Rockingham residents Richard McFayden and his mother Katherine McFayden are the latest players to win the $150,000 top prize in the new $500 Mayhem game.
