Two $1 million Powerball tickets sold in North Carolina

North Carolina’s luck this week in the big jackpot games continued Wednesday as two tickets sold in our state came up $1 million winners in the Powerball drawing.

With the $1 million win in Tuesday’s night’s Mega Millions drawing, that adds up to three $1 million wins in two days.

The lucky Powerball tickets were sold at the Queen City Food Mart on East Independence Boulevard in Charlotte and at the Cedar Valley Family Fare on Weaver Dairy Road in Chapel Hill.

You win $1 million in Powerball if you match all five numbers on the white balls. In Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, the winning numbers were 6-8-13-37-40 for the white balls and 11 for the red Powerball. The odds of matching all five white balls in the game are 1 in 5.1 million.

The $1 million prizes were the largest won in North Carolina in Wednesday’s drawing. A ticket sold in Arizona matched all six numbers to win the $188.9 million jackpot annuity. The jackpot will start anew at $40 million as an annuity or $25.4 million in cash for Saturday’s drawing.

Two other Powerball players in North Carolina won big with tickets that matched four white balls and the Powerball. A $2 ticket, sold at Norm’s Mini Mart on Kanuga Road in Hendersonville, is worth $10,000. The second ticket, a $3 Powerplay ticket sold at the Food Lion on West Hamlet Avenue, is worth $20,000 because the multiplier in Wednesday’s drawing was 2X.

The $1 million Mega Millions prize was collected Wednesday, the day after the drawing, by Charlie Thur, a Navy veteran from Burgaw. Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot will be $15 million as an annuity, or $9.1 million in cash.

You have 180 days after the drawing to collect your prizes. We look forward to meeting the lucky winners.

I bought a "quick pick" Mega-Million ticket at a local retailer in Rocky Mount that had the Mega ball at number "20" on 10/31/17.It also charged me two dollars for the ticket. Is this a Halloween joke. NC Lottery
A new version of the Mega Millions game started Saturday. The starting jackpot begins at $40 million. Jackpot amounts grow larger faster. And you have better odds of winning the second prize of $1 million or more. To make possible bigger jackpots and the potential for more $1 million wins, a regular ticket now costs $2. Hi there, JHL. Lucky for Life is still available in North Carolina. We just had a $25,000 A Year For Life winner! If we were to end a game like Lucky For Life, we would let players know right here on the blog and our website and social channels.

It varies, but its easy to calculate. Just multiply the number of starting prizes at any specific level by the odds of winning it. For example, a game that starts with 4 top prizes and 1 in 1 million odds of winning one of them begins with 4 million total tickets :-)

A Hendersonville winner! Dang! If my ship ever comes in, with my luck, I'll be somewhere out in the cockeyed desert! I went to my favorite lottery retailer and bought my usual five Cash5 QP's...Didn't win one thin dime! Went back the next day and told the clerk that I had bought something that was no good, and could I get a refund. He replied that he would give me another or my money back. I plopped the worthless lottery ticket on the counter and said "I'll just take another". Uhh...somehow, he wasn't amused.

We strive to contact everyone within 48 hours. But the winners' names aren't posted until the winner completes the claim process. That depends on when they came come to a lottery office.

Just figured out I can't get emails anymore..if my number/name was drawn would you move on to the next winner in line.would I not get it because I had an invalid email when you sent the winning email?in process of changing not very computer savvy. NC Lottery
So long as you have a valid phone number, we can try that, as well. Still, it's a good idea to make sure that all of your contact info is up to date. We'd hate for anyone to miss out on a prize!

The winners are chosen by a random number generator. You can enter a drawing as many times as you like, but it only takes one lucky entry to win!

only 180 days to collect $$. we purchase a 26 draw power ball and only check it once or everyother week my numbers, so it i won big on the first draw....after supporting the lottery for years!! talk about being upset. that can't be good. now if i only bought a ticket once or twice a year, okay i could see that being but when you are a full supporter of the lottery....
