We had three $1 million prizes won this week, one in Tuesday’s Mega Millions and two more in Wednesday’s Powerball drawings.
The Mega Millions winner wasted no time coming in to collect his $1 million. Charlie Thur, a Navy veteran from Burgaw in Pender County, said he would donate a portion of his winnings to the Wounded Warriors Project.
The two $1 million Powerball prizes have yet to be claimed. The winning tickets were sold at the Queen City Food Mart on East Independence Boulevard in Charlotte and at the Cedar Valley Family Fare on Weaver Dairy Road in Chapel Hill.
Two Powerball players did claim the $10,000 prizes they won in recent drawings. Paul Hess of Wilmington won in the May 20 drawing and Roger Mann of Zirconia won in Wednesday’s drawing.
Two Triad-area residents collected their Carolina Cash 5 jackpots this week. Antonio Monzon of Greensboro won $335,812 in the May 31 drawing. The next night, James Fetterer of Kernersville won the $53,000 jackpot.
Chad Beach, a railroad worker from Chuckey, Tenn., came to Raleigh to get the job done and collect a paycheck. Thanks to a lucky Mega Bucks ticket, he also collected a $100,000 prize at lottery headquarters.
Gary Winbush of Fayetteville plans to make some investments after becoming the third player to claim the $200,000 top prize in the “$” instant scratch-off game. He purchased the lucky $5 ticket at the Alco on Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville.
Eight players scratched off $10,000 wins. They are:
- Leroy Herschell of Charlotte (100X The Cash)
- Taivyon Mizelle of Everetts ($500 Mayhem)
- David Marlowe of Fairview ($4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular)
- Keith Dula of Hickory ($4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular)
- Mehul Patel of Mooresville (100X The Cash)
- Henrietta Jenrette of Raleigh ($120 Million Cash)
- Dale Briggs of Vass ($4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular)
- Angela Sawyer of Washington (Trucks & Bucks)
It’s always fun to find out who won, and it’s always fun to find out who wins next. Have a fun and safe weekend and see you soon here in the Lucke-Zone.

I am speaking of transparency, not whether the drawings are boring as your answer suggested. Fairness trumps boring in our ethical and moral society. I would love to see a drawing on T.V. not staged for me. It that hides in the shadows has it's selfish hidden agenda. Man or Beast. I am sincere when I say "BORING" is not a proper response , when it comes to Fairness. so to the viewers fairness, televise for transparencies, So average persons like me won't question integrity. I do not know you or the officials, Why should I trust someone which Deletes or does not share with the entire second chance lottery player. I await your rebuttal, Please if you think that this may embarrass the lottery , I do believe that you have my email address to platicate Speak of this in private. Respectfully Submitted A.J. Changsut "T" is silent like a boy named sue.
We call that A dog and pony show, can I just come and see or is it buy invitation only?
Forgive me if I misspelled any words or any word, I believe whole hearted that spell check regresses our ability to spell and pronounce. I do apologize.
99.3%, why not televise drawings? No need to get defensive. Just a monumental observation. Again thank you for responding to my words. Much appreciated.
Thank you For acquiescing my request for an answer, though vague . This kind of question in which I ponder About Name Pronunciation is Valid. I see with my eyes as well as my friends and acquaintances. also see that 99.3% of winners are of common names (simply pronounced even to the feeble minded, Bless them) What I do not see is a live drawing in which a false sense of maybe, just maybe, I have a chance. This next example should flourish in the lotteries Officials mind or minds. Act 1: Lottery employee #1: Ready for the drawings? Lottery employee #2 yes, Yes I am. Lottery employee #1: Here we go, what the heck I can't pronounce this name! Lottery employee #2: put it in the circular file (TRASH) and pick another. They can't see it, so pick Another. Employee #1: Here's one that is is easy to pronounce , We got us a winner.Act ends. Now that I have expressed My Observation I feel, that someone truly needs to note this issue. Respectfully observed and Submitted. Fair winds and calm seas.
Why is it only players with common names win at second chance? I only submitted thousands of entries. is my name to difficult to pronounce. Heck a person from Texas won. Oh well.Somethings never change. At least Congratulations to all you common name winners.
I have been playing the puzzles for years can't I get lucky? The most I have won is $1000.00
