North Carolinians can now play jackpot games at gas pump

Just like a car wash, some lottery purchases in North Carolina can now be made at a gas pump.

The purchases are possible through a new service that provides lottery players the convenience of entering a drawing in one of the jackpot games – Powerball, Mega Millions or Carolina Cash 5 – while pumping gas.

To use the service, customers swipe a debit card at the gas pump to get Quick Pick numbers for the next drawing in one of the jackpot games. They get a receipt with their lucky numbers and also can get a text of their lucky numbers and a text if they win. Small wins, up to $599, are credited to their debit card. Players pay a flat $1 transaction fee to Linq3, the company that developed the technology for Play At The Pump, to use cover these unique services. Larger wins must be claimed at a lottery office.

Several features ensure purchases are made responsibly. They include:
•    Only debit cards can be used in Play At The Pump purchases. Credit cards are not allowed.
•    Customers must be 18 years old or older. The service quickly checks the age of the owner of the debit card before a purchase can happen.
•    Limits placed on purchases. A customer can spend no more than $70 per debit card per week.

The service is optional to lottery retailers. Currently, Play At The Pump is available at 120 locations across the state, including all Murphy Express stores.

In the Lucke Rewards drawings, If I choose to buy 50 entries with my points, does that give me a sequential block of entry numbers or a group of random entry numbers?NC Lottery
A sequential block.

Thank you for clearing up my question about wallet Dashboard. I am a winner!

7/21/2015 04:10 - Debora H.

I just want too win.

7/20/2015 12:36 - Frances B.

What I mean by the wallet block? I mean what do the player used the wallet dashboard for? ThanksNC Lottery
The wallet is for members who sign up for subscription service to make purchases for Cash 5, Powerball or Mega Millions here in the Lucke-Zone. If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to call customer service.

You are telling the truth. It use to be if you were willing to dish out $20 for a scratch off you would at least win your money back but this day it time its zero. I have brought several of the 100x the cash and win zero. I know the lottery is making big bucks so if a person is willing to dish out $20 on a ticket they should be able to at least win half of their money back.NC Lottery
It would be great if every ticket could win a prize. But prize money comes from non-winning tickets. $20 games pay out at the highest rate of all scratch-off games. We wish you luck on your next ticket!

What do you use the wallet block for?NC Lottery
Not sure what you mean by wallet block. Could you call our customer service at 877-962-7529?

7/18/2015 09:43 - Lisa N.

I thought it was just me who wasn't winning anything on scratch offs anymore. Good to know that other people aren't either.

I Agree This Is Crazy Crazy Crazy I Would Never Play At A Gas Pump. But To Each His Own

7/17/2015 03:41 - Sandra H.

can u tell me how to find out how many chances I have on the 2nd chance drawings not sure how to check it ThanksNC Lottery
Sure, just go to the DRAWINGS page and it will show you how many entries you have for any drawings you've entered :-)

7/17/2015 03:08 - sharon d.

This makes ZERO sense!!! They're going to hold up the pump playing #'s.

7/17/2015 01:29 - Denver G.

The subscription service has the exact same games with the exact same guidelines/rules and it's free! The real issue here is identity theft. Everyone knows you should never ever use your debit card at the gas pumps. That is the #1 way crooks get your info. I learned the hard way. Use a credit card at the pump or go inside!

7/17/2015 03:52 - Gary C.

Now when crooks steal debit cards they can get gas AND Lottery tickets!!!!

7/17/2015 01:25 - Lessie P.

I think I would go in the store!

7/16/2015 10:07 - Danny P.

Did you choose the alternate winner for the $50,000. X's the cash winner that fail to meet the 30 day limit for drawing on 6/03/15? Would love to win it!!!NC Lottery
The winner of that drawing is Ronald Newman of Fayetteville. That info just needs to be updated on the Winners' page. Thanks for pointing that out :-)

7/16/2015 09:10 - lisa p.

Stop it already. Nothing is winning for the majority of players. Scratchoffs are getting as hard to win at as megamillions or the jackpot! Youre ripping everybody off but the very small minority of big winners. No fun playing anymore. You have refused to post the last couple of comments I made. NCEL doesnt want the players to read the truth.

7/16/2015 05:07 - Elizabeth C.

I would never try it because the NC Lottery never figured out a way to make my Visa debit card work on Lucke-zone. I can just hear the car horns blowing behind me while I try to get a pump to take my money.

7/16/2015 02:32 - ELVENE G.

I ASK A QUESTION ON MONDAY,BUT NO RESPONSE ASK AGAIN IF A PERSON HAS 100 ENTRIES ANOTHER 1000 ENTRIES ARE THEY ALL PUT TOGETHER FOR A RANDOM DRAWING. NC Lottery
We're not quite sure what you're asking. Can you be a little more specific? Thanks! :-)

7/16/2015 07:43 - Corey G.

OMG I don't normally post here but that first comment about being FAT and LAZY takes the cake --- I'm at work right now and I laughed so freaking loud when I just read that.... Yooooooooooo that was SUPER FUNNY AZ HELL!!!

7/16/2015 03:39 - Terry B.

LOL! Thank you for clearing that up for me, TURBO. I didn't understand it at first. I'd rather walk inside the store too where it's air conditioned.

7/16/2015 03:23 - Pamela N.

I agree with TURBO. Are you serious? You have to pay a flat $1 transaction fee to Linq3 when you can just walk a few feet into the store and increase your odds of winning by giving the cashier your extra $1 for a ticket. Haven't laughed this hard all day. If you don't want to walk into the store, send me your money and I will do it for you, this is a great way for me to hit the lottery. Too funny!

7/16/2015 01:08 - sandra r.

This would have been a successful promotion to increase sales had the $1.00 charge been left off. I hope no one uses this service until the $1.00 charge is removed. Th lottery generatees enouigh money without placing an additional $1.00 "tax" on it! NC Lottery
The $1 fee does not go to the lottery. It is a fee charged by the company that provides the services offered by its technology.

7/15/2015 08:18 - jerry s.

yippee, another way to get ripped off......

7/15/2015 07:14 - Sandra H.

They gotta make more money I really am very disappointed in N.C.lottery

7/15/2015 05:09 - Delphine H.

"company" is misspelled in the third paragraph. NC Lottery
Thanks for the edit. :) Fixed.

7/15/2015 04:06 - Leslie B.

Oh and speaking of retailers...one of my favorites just told me there's supposed to be a $30 scratcher coming out next week with a $12M top prize. Is this true??? Hope I land a job so I can play.NC Lottery
Hey, its true that we do have a big ticket coming out soon, but not until September... stay tuned!

7/15/2015 03:55 - Leslie B.

I agree Turbo. And by the way, I'm still standing by to be the first electronic bond-bearing winner of the last $5/k a Week For Life winner. I know you have my Lucke-Rewards records. And speaking of chat...please chat with Alice about this...could be good for all!

7/15/2015 03:13 - Denver G.

WOW. Too funny. Have we really become so fat and lazy that we are willing to pay $2 for a $1 draw ticket? I was looking forward to this, but I am not going to pay extra for it! Besides that, I like going inside and having a little chit chat and face time with the retailers.
