Cash 5 jackpot surges to $457,000 for Friday's drawing

The Cash 5 jackpot rolled again, growing by more than $100,000 from $344,000 to $457,000 for Friday's drawing.

You have to go back more than three months to find a Cash 5 jackpot this big. That jackpot ultimately growing to $754,482 for the April 16 drawing. Players from Gastonia and Lexington split the jackpot, winning $377,241 apiece.

We'll be watching with Cash 5 players across the state to see what happens over the weekend. Good luck to all.

Exactly what I said, its a gimmick!! Then when the jackpot gets so high two or more people just happen to get tickets with the same five #s.. ncel is only gonna let u win so much per person unless its a scratch off, and its hard just to break even on those!! Smh!!NC Lottery
The reason the Cash 5 jackpot is split more often when the jackpot gets larger is because more people play when the jackpot gets large, and the chances increase that more than one ticket will have the winning numbers.

I know you have 180 days to claim a "draw" prize. I always wondered if you won a large amount in the 2nd half of this year but waited until the beginning of next year to claim it. Would the income and the taxes be for 2015 or 2016. What I guess I'm trying to say is. Does it go buy the day you bought the ticket, or the day you cash it in????NC Lottery
We aren't tax experts. But we believe lottery winnings are taxed as income for the year in which you claim the prize and that the draw date is not a factor.

I think this a gimmick cause why is it so hard to get 5 numbers and every time sumbody wins it be people from other places yall pick who you want to win and you know exactly where the winner will be at. Stop taking people money
