Two tickets split Friday's $461,844 Cash 5 jackpot

Friday's $461,844 Carolina Cash 5 jackpot, the largest in more than three months, was split by lucky tickets worth $230,922 apiece.

One ticket was sold in Raleigh, at the Han-Dee Hugo on Durant Road. The other was sold in Catawba County at the Energy Fuels on Springs Road NE in Hickory.

The next night in Saturday's Powerball drawing, a ticket sold in Charlotte won $10,000. That ticket, which matched four white balls and the Powerball, was sold at the Archdale Mini Mart on Archdale Road.

At $100 million, the Powerball jackpot annuity has climbed back to triple digits for Wednesday's drawing.

I just moved down to NC from VA and let me tell you, it looks like NC residents don't know how good they have it with the NCEL. I've probably spent $700 on scratch offs since late March, and I've won about $400 of it back. The most I've ever won at once is $50, but that is WAY better than the chances at scratch-offs up in VA. The NCEL is by far the best/most fair/highest chance of winning state lottery I have ever played. I mean seriously, we even have employees from the NCEL taking the time to come on here and answer our questions/address our complaints. That is legit!! And no, I do not work for the NCEL. Danerdawg and Turbo are right. The rest of you need to stop playing the lottery as a source of income. Congrats to all the winners, save your winnings wisely :) And I wish good luck to EVERYONE playing this weekend (complainers included) NC Lottery

@ GORAMS15 - We've talked a lot over the years here in the Lucke-Zone. The thing to remember with games of chance is that your odds of winning don't get better or worse as time goes by. Every drawing, every ticket is a separate event. Prize money comes from non-winning tickets, which means most tickets don't win a prize. That's why we encourage folks every day to only play for fun knowing it takes luck to beat the odds. If you are not enjoying yourself, maybe it is time to take a break. We appreciate all our players but there are certainly more important things in life. So please make the choice that's best for you.

Sounds like the kind of luck we all need, but not in the foothills. I want it right here in Thomasville for Go Rams 15. I been playing the same number for years and never got any one straight. Everybody needs to fill a big win after been donating for years and not big profits. You can wait years for your numbers to fall while some fall constantly every year. Since I have been playing some of the same numbers fall every year, more than one. I do alot of quick picks as well and I just cannot get a win from them. Why does it take 1 to 5 years for some numbers to ever fall again? You play the same numbers alot and they are only reversed another way, this frustrates me as a player. No second chance drawing either as long as it has been going. How are you suppose to feel when you spend alot and not winning nothing to benefit from your playing.

Turbo, the lottery can be rigged. A LOTTERY EMPLOYEE IN MISSOURI was able to program the system so he could win AND HE DID!!! MILLIONS!! Who is to say that a north carolina employee is not doing the same.NC Lottery
The situation you're referring to was in Iowa, and the individual in question was charged and convicted. The specific way that it is alleged he tampered with the system could not happen in North Carolina because our RNG system is independently certified, line-by-line of code, and sealed. You are welcome to come to lottery HQ and see the system for yourself and someone from our security team can answer any questions you have.

Sorry dude, I'm not an NCEL employee. I have not won life changing amounts. I have been lucky enough to win the pick4 three times in three years and one 2nd chance drawing and few nice size scratch offs. All in my little town in the southern foothills.

I have been buying tickets every day for years and have never won more $100 on anything. I have spent up to $200 at a time and not won anything! This lottery is history for me. Im thinking I would be a lot better off to have just saved my money. I would have something to show for it. No way in hell you will ever come out ahead. Get real, your chances of winning anything is almost impossible. The odds of winning on breakeven tickets is getting worse every day. NCEL doesnt want to give back ANY money to the players. There's never a guarantee of coming out ahead playing games of chance, you have to beat the odds. In the month of July we awarded 75 prizes of $10,000 to $750,000.

I hear ya danerdawg!STOP the complaining people! There are big towns and small towns all across NC and the great USA. There is NO way any lottery in any state can place a winning ticket where they want. East coast, mountains or central state, be realistic people or stop playing!!!!!

I have to say I am becoming very skeptical at the actual odds of winning on the $20 scratch off's Which I play a lot. I tend to play through an entire roll or most of the role that is available at a single place and on multiple occasions now from multiple places I have had just two or three winners out of 20 or more tickets, and not big winners just $20-$30. The last role I played there were 14 losing tickets in a row and two winners out of 22 tickets this is not an isolated and experience but this has truly happened multiple times with not only this $20 game but a previous one I had played as well that I gave up on just a note to the NCEL- this is really going to discourage people from wanting to continue playing your games. I have played the lottery for years and have always felt it is fair and it is about luck however more recently given this I am becoming more and more skeptical.NC Lottery

Scratch offs are so unfair!! Ur explanation cant explain how a man from Raleigh where most prizes are won hit for 50000 and 10000 on the same game!! Ncel u guys need to distribute the ticket all over!! Not just Raleigh and Fayetteville!! Its just a shame!!NC Lottery
It's not easier to win the lottery depending on where you live. Remember that there are close to a million people in Wake County and when you hear that one person won, a lot of other people did not. Nobody knows where a winning ticket will appear until it's scratched off - good luck to you!
