Lifetime prize won in Hertford County tops biggest wins of the week

Robert Davis’ quick stop at a convenience store in Murfreesboro turned out to be life-changing. The 58-year-old retiree from Courtland, Va. bought a $5 ticket for the $2,500 a Week for Life game – and won the top prize. Davis or his estate will receive $130,000 annually for at least 20 years, and for as long as he lives.

Davis’ win was by far the largest of the week but not the only big one. Sandro Martinez, an electrician from Durham, is one of two players to win $100,000. He said he’ll use the prize money he won playing Millionaire 7’s to buy back-to-school supplies for his five kids and take the whole family on a beach trip.

When Robert Daniel of Oxford won $100,000, he became the first to win the top prize in the new Mega Bucks game. He purchased the lucky $5 ticket last Tuesday at Bowen’s Mini Mart on N.C. 96 North in Oxford.

Three players won $50,000 this week:

- John Winstead, a maintenance mechanic from Nashville, won on a lucky Jumbo Bucks ticket he bought at the Fuel Doc on South Barnes Street in his hometown.

- Kenneth Holt of Summerfield said the prize money he won on a $200 Million Blowout ticket will pay for new hardwood floors. He bought the winning ticket at Moore’s Grocery on N.C. 65 West in Reidsville.

- Elexis Alston of Henderson won playing Junior Big Ol’ Bucks. She bought her winning ticket at the New Hope Mini Mart on N.C. 39 North in Henderson.

A player from the small town of Orrum in Robeson County won $30,000 playing the Did I Win? game. Angela Lovin bought her winning ticket at the Hasty Mart on N.C. 42 West in Garner.

Ten players scratched their way to instant prizes of $10,000. They are:
