Big jackpots and big winners

Welcome to your weekly winner wrap-up!

Before we begin, we'd like to let folks know that you've got a couple of chances at a big jackpot this weekend. The Powerball jackpot continued to roll this week and is now an estimated $110 million if taken as an annuity or $71.7 million if taken as a lump sum. Players holding tickets for Friday's Mega Millions drawing have a chance at a $64 million annuity or $40.2 million if the cash option is chosen.

Speaking of jackpot games, High Point resident Cassandra Mason won $10,000 in the Aug. 22 Powerball drawing. She purchased the lucky ticket at the Pick N Go on Eastchester Drive in High Point.

The Carolina Cash 5 game paid off in a big way on Aug. 20 as two tickets matched all five numbers to split the $171,422 jackpot.

Monroe resident Jesus Colon, an operations manager for a medical company, said he plans to use his $85,711 share to pay bills and save for the future. He purchased the lucky ticket at Gate on Lawyers Road in Stallings.

The second $85,711 share was claimed by Joyce Moye of Winterville. She purchased the lucky ticket at the Wilco on Stantonsburg Road in Greenville.

Four players won $50,000 this week:

High Point architect Robert Canter. He said he plans to pay bills with his winnings. (Junior Big Ol’ Bucks)
Princeton resident Wallace Spears. (Lucky 7 Slingo)
Mooresville resident Royal Malcolm. (Jumbo Bucks)
Goldsboro resident Magarita Brown. (5X Crossword)

Six players scratched their way to instant prizes of $10,000. They are:

China Grove resident Floyd Propst (50X The Cash)
Cornelius resident Evan Marchal (100X The Cash)
Gibsonville resident Tracy Lynch (100X The Cash)
Hendersonville resident Tameika Robinson (20X The Cash)
Raleigh resident Amir Aburahmeh (100X The Cash)
Raleigh resident Norberto Guiza ($2,500 a Week for Life!)

Overall, players in North Carolina won $19.4 million in prizes this week, an average of $2.7 million per day.

Congratulations to all the winners. I have a question: why is it when you input the ultimate lottery scratcher you only get one (1) entry? For a $30.00 ticket, there should be at least more than one (1), why is that? I inputted one ticket to check and for sure it is only one (1) entry. Is that an error or just correct. Also, how is the second chance being determined, is by how many entries or the names of the players drawn or how. Please clarify because I do not know. Thank you. NC Lottery
Yes, everyone gets one entry per Ultimate Millions ticket. As for the drawings, you only need one lucky entry to win a drawing.

There is no way the 10million on the scratch offs will be won this soon.. if all 4 are won fast there will be no reason for people to buy them!! U can win up to 4million on a 20 dollar ticket! Ijs wake up people!!

I would advise you not to buy the $30 ticket until 4-6 weeks after the release. Millions of losing tickets have to be sold before they can payout the big bucks.

i can't believe it! i won 100d's back to back on the2.5k a week tickets. i won a totle of 225d this wk-end. i spent 125d in buying these tickets this month from 8/1 thur 8/30. i keep all of my old tickets until the end of the month and i only play one game all of that month. no other game. my total winnings for this month was 350d's. i always keep a record for each month.NC Lottery

Have a question if the lottery is for NC education. Why are schoos still asking for so much this years. So please explain what is the purpose for playing? Is this really to help schools or what?NC Lottery

How do the "random" drawings work? Do you have more chances the more entries you have? It's hard to believe one person can get picked more than once for big prizes.I saw Phil Morgan on the Monopoply Millionaires show and he won $10,000 on there and won the trip and I remember he won a Mustang when you were doing that contest.Doesn't sound random to me!NC Lottery
Having more entries gives you more chances to win, just like having more than one Powerball ticket gives you more chances to win. Winning once doesn't prevent someone from getting lucky again. We wish YOU the best of luck!
