Powerball jackpot in triple-digit territory

Players this week won on average $3.8 million a day - and could win much more in this weekend's drawings.

Friday's Mega Millions jackpot annuity is $106 million, worth $65.4 million cash. At a $167 million annuity, Saturday's Powerball jackpot would be worth $106.3 million if claimed as a lump sum. We've had national jackpot winners from every region of North Carolina, so good luck to players across the state!

Four players claimed six-figure prizes this week. The largest went to Gloria Davis of Durham who won $200,000 playing the 20X The Cash game. “I waited until I got home before I scratched the ticket,” said Davis. “When I showed all my sisters what I had won, we all started screaming and dancing and jumping up and down. It was pandemonium.”

Phalon Whitfield, a sanitation technician from Winston-Salem, said he’s dreamed of winning a big lottery prize since he started playing five years ago. His dreams came true Wednesday when he scratched off the $150,000 top prize on his $500 Mayhem ticket.

Greensboro resident Charles McCall is the latest player to win big playing Carolina Cash 5. His ticket matched all five numbers in the Sept. 5 drawing to win $116,665.

Frank Tanzi of Rock Hill, S.C. won $100,000 on a Mega Bucks ticket he bought for $5 at Sam’s Mart on Scott Futrell Drive in Charlotte. He is the second player to win the top prize playing Mega Bucks since a new-look version of the game started in August.

Three players won $50,000 this week:

- Terry Woodley of Poplar Branch (Junior Big Ol’ Bucks)
- Jonathan Gobble of Thomasville (Junior Big Ol’ Bucks)
- Lamonz Sauls of Wilson (Super Bonus Bingo)

Other instant wins belong to Amos Brantley of Jacksonville, who became the latest player to win the $30,000 top prize in the Double Match game. Bobby Roberts of Candler and Frank Williams of Greensboro both won $20,000 prizes in the new Ultimate Millions game.

Seven players scratched their way to instant prizes of $10,000:

- Joshua James of Durham (100X The Cash)
- Laurie Hayslip of Greenville (100X The Cash)
- John Pendergrass of Henderson (Millionaire 7’s)
- Carleen Trosclair and Luke Trosclair of Jacksonville ($4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular)
- Brenda Harrison of Lenoir (Casino Riches)
- Deanna Goins of Stanley ($200 Million Blowout)

I also AGREE with TURBO....Winning tickets should NOT be allowed for a 2nd chance drawing...or at least if they are then it should say THIS IS A WINNING TICKET..Please take to your nearest retailer and cash it out...I have almost thrown away tickets that were winners because it accepted it in 2nd chance...Could the NCEL PLEASE address this issue since it seems a MAJORITY of players feel the same way. For the players who play the draw games, the odds of quads or trips being drawn must have increased. Because it has been over two and a half years since a quad has come out and trips are coming out less each year.

Congrats to the winners. Hoping to join you soon. Remove the option where you can punch in winning tickets. Some people use the lucky zone as their final check and balance before tossing the ticket. While i have your attention, create a state lottery and do away with that "all or nothing, which amounts to nothing.

I agree with Player the percentage of winner are always in the Raleigh Durham area.Every new ticket put out first big win is in that area.I have scratched 10 $10 tickets in a roll and only got 10 or $20 that is sad. Same with the $2 0 tickets. $1 and $2 are out the question. Waste of money...I feel I am just donating to the nc lottery.

Now, that I stopped playing my favorite numbers,they come out. I have lost enough to pay for my own childs education, for the number of years I've played. Second chance drawings, takes way to much luck to win. Its truly amazing to walk in a store and purchase so many scratch offs of the same kind and nothing. Now, who has that much bad luck.NC Lottery
Hey so we've talked a lot over the years since the Lucke-Zone began and want you to know that as much as we appreciate you and all our players, we care more about you as a person. So if games of chance aren't fun for you then it might be better to take a break. Because whether you buy one ticket or many tickets, it takes a lot of luck to beat the odds to win a prize, especially a big prize.

If your ticket was valid for a game-specific second-chance drawing, and your name is drawn, the lottery will contact you, first by e-mail and then, if necessary, telephone and certified mail. Some thing if you used Lucke-Rewards points to enter a drawing. Good luck!

Would it be possible to have a machine where individuals can cash in their own scratch offs or other nc tickets as long as they are under a certain amount? Something like an atm that would give you cash for your winning tickets?NC Lottery
That's a pretty cool idea. We don't have anything like that on the immediate horizon, but it isn't difficult to imagine how convenient that would be!

I have been a loyal player and member of the lucky zone since day one back in Oct. of 2012. Let's just go back to the way it was intended and only be able to enter non winning tickets! Hence the name 2nd chance drawings. Why should I be able to win $500 on a scratch off , turn around and enter that ticket for 200 points. Then apply those 200 points towards 20 entries into a weekly drawing and win another $500 or more. Which is exactly what happened. I was lucky enough to win on the ticket. I am sure I am not the only player to win a 2nd chance drawing with points from a winning ticket. Just saying, It's called a 2nd chance drawing for a reason! Have I collected and kept the money? Hell yes! So don't even go there...NC Lottery

I applaud the lucky zone for trying to make things better by letting players enter winning tickets. Consensus says it is just making things worse . Player/ consumer confidence is going way down. I am willing to bet sales of bingo & crossword type games are way down also. I will continue in another blog.

All big winners seems to come from the raleigh, Durham area. Look at the winning precentage locations. Which is unfair to all other players in the surrounding state.
