Two 'Ultimate' $1 million wins top best of the week

The biggest instant game in our lottery's history started less than three weeks ago, and we already have our first two $1 million winners: Champakbhai Patel of Salisbury and Tyrone Heller of Lincolnton. For those that have already noticed, yes, the first top prize of $10 million has also been claimed. Stay tuned for more on that!

Two other players collected six-figure scratch-off wins. Charlotte resident Patrick Urbanski said he plans to use the $200,000 he won playing Diamonds and Dollars to pay bills and travel. Brittany Brickhouse of Elizabeth City said she planned to share her $150,000 in Casino Riches winnings with her family.

A pair of Cash 5 players from Greensboro - Derek Price and Charles McCall - each had a winning ticket for the $233,330 jackpot in the Sept. 5 drawing, winning them $116,665 apiece.

Let's talk about this weekend's jackpots:

- After 13 straight drawings without a perfect ticket, Saturday's Powerball jackpot annuity is up to $208 million ($131.3 million cash).
- Heading into Friday's Mega Millions drawing, the jackpot annuity is $20 million ($12.2 million cash).
- Our state's jackpot game, Carolina Cash 5, boasts a $349,000 jackpot for Friday night. Will it be won this weekend?

Having a chance to win a jackpot is fun - but there are other ways to win. Just ask Peter Leeke of Charlotte or Hamidou Sissoko or Pittsboro. Each won $10,000 in recent Powerball drawings by matching four white balls and the red Powerball. Another $10,000 winner, Fui Kao of Durham, won in last Friday's Mega Millions drawing.

We had two lucky scratches worth $50,000 this week. They belong to Elizabeth Mays of Burlington, who won playing Blackout Bingo and Scott Kelly of Wilmington, who won playing Ultimate Millions. Another Ultimate Millions winner is Carol Lynn Thompson of Saint Pauls. She won $20,000 instantly.

- Travis Baines of Charlotte ($5,000 a Week for Life!)
- Bassim Jaafar of Charlotte (100X The Cash)

- Wanda Lessane of Elizabethtown (Jumbo Bucks)
- Jonathan Bethea of Fayetteville (100X the Cash)
- Hoang Nguyen of Fayetteville ($200 Million Blowout)
- John Kilpatrick of Kinston (100X The Cash)

Just saw the couple's picture that won 10 million, I don't think I would have taken a photo. Did they have to take a photo? A photo that close up, people are so mean. They target you, the media follows you it can be dangerous.NC Lottery
They had the choice to take a photo or not. One thing to think about is that people win money on TV game shows all the time. Also, by making it a mystery who you are, that can actually make the media more interested in your story. By sharing the good news once, it actually shortens the amount of time that the public is focused on your big win. Good luck to you!

North Carolina is nothing but a scam Save Your Money,stop playing in NC. You see everyday on here how many and how much has been won but you never here how many losing tickets are sold and how much the Lottery took in. We have a morning coffee group of guys that meet at a local store that sell Lottery tickets none of us play anymore we were just throwing our money out the window. We did take a little survey this morning. 32 tickets sold and 5 winners on different tickets,$3.00 & $5.00 amounts were all that was won. Never seen so many losing tickets,what a joke.

Demographics also plays a part where tickets are place. Check the demographics of Mint Hill. That's the place where a 4 million dollar scratch-off was won.

GRTHKA, I agree TOTALLY! I have written several posts about the SAME people winning scratch tickets OVER and OVER...... Patel seems to be an awful lucky last name. If you research the winners of scratch tickets, there is a handful of names that win so many times it is sickening. There is NO way on this earth these people can win that many scratch tickets. NO way. It would be like winning the powerball consecutively for 20 draws in a row. This isn't something that is just recent. It has been going on for years..... These names are all store owners, I did my research...........

I'm done playing in NC. I go to SC for three days and out of 20 tickets bought 12 at least hit their money back and 2 hit $500. You buy 20 tickets in NC and the majority of the time all 20 are losers.

Hey there. Sorry but once you've entered a drawing, the rules state that your points cannot be returned. Good luck to you; maybe if you win, you could sell the tickets or give them away! :)

Player, don't worry about it. The ncel will come out with a triple or a quad and get the people buying those 30 tickets again. I have been playing scratch-offs for awhile and never seen so many losing tickets. I guess that have to pay for that new office space.

Larger % of winners are always EAST of Charlotte . Seems that`s where the largest populations are , so therefore there are more tickets rolls sent to the areas EAST of Charlotte. If I am in Charlotte I always try to purchase my tickets there because the odds are much better to win there than WEST of Charlotte...

Why is the stores still allowed to sell the "Trucks and Bucks " ticket? All the top prizes are gone and All three trucks have been given away,so what I am I paying my money for? As for the $30 ticket best thing to do is watch all the loser go by then try your luck, may not be 10 million, but your odds will increase just ask the person who watched me scratch 8 losers then they brought the next ticket to "Win" $500.00.NC Lottery

People in the comment section are a great form of free entertainment. You complain because you "never" win or you say certain areas always win more than others. And they way people are always on here "praying" for a big win is just sad. If you need money so bad that you're praying for a big win then you should not be spending money on a game of chance. If you are complaining and are truly upset that you "never" win, then you too should not be putting your money on a game of chance. Would I love a big win? Of course. Would a big win help me out a great deal? You bet it would, but I know what the lottery is and the odds of winning big so I won't hold my breath waiting for the big one. And if I don't have any extra cash to spare, guess what??? I don't play! It really is that simple. Yeah it sucks to spend money and not win anything, but if you're not enjoying the fun of the game and you're just doing to make a quick buck then you're doing it wrong.

I enjoy playing, and I know it is for a good cause. I wish there was a game (even for a short while) that every ticket was a winner. I know that this is how the Lottery makes its money, But it would be nice to win something even it was another ticket. I have lost more than I have won. I am wondering why if you enter a WINNING ticket it just accepts and doesn't let you know its a winner in any way?? Its easy to overlook a number and throw away a winner..I almost did... Important information not mentioned in this news is the fact that Champakbhai Patel owns the store he bought??? the ticket from. Even stranger, he also won a million on a Holiday Cash scratch ticket also purchased??? from his store he owns in Salisbury. The other winning million dollar ticket was also surprisingly purchased by an employee of another store. When researched online it seems that a lot of store owners / employees make up a very very high percentage of large lottery winning tickets.NC Lottery

You can't tell me that the tickets that win are not rigged. why do the majority of winners come from eastern part of the state? Ive noticed since the $30 tickets have come out, no other tickets are winning. You must need the money from other scratchoffs to pay out for the $30 ones. You do NOT have to be logged in. The drawings are held on specific dates but not at specific times, depending on the availability of security and audit personnel.
