A Lexington couple claimed the largest scratch-off prize yet, six North Carolinians won all-expense trips to Las Vegas and a chance to compete on a TV game show, and Powerball players have a chance on Saturday to win one of the largest jackpots this year.
The Powerball jackpot for Saturday’s drawing will be an estimated $267 million, if taken as an annuity, or $169 million, if taken as a lump sum. That’s the 5th highest jackpot so far this year. The current jackpot has grown since the Aug. 1 drawing when a player in California won $110 million.
Friday’s big drawing is in the Mega Millions game. The jackpot is $31 million, if taken as an annuity, or $19.1 million, if taken as a lump sum.
Who were the biggest winners in this week’s report?
- Dale and Robin Summey, who made lottery history this week as they became the biggest scratch-off winners ever. The Lexington couple claimed the $10 million top prize in the new Ultimate Millions game.
- Nashville resident James Battle, the latest player to claim a big prize playing Carolina Cash 5. He matched all five numbers in the Sept. 18 drawing to win the $353,882 jackpot.
- Raleigh resident Barry Seawell, who won the $100,000 top prize in the Mega Bucks game.
We’re sending six North Carolinians to Las Vegas In October for the chance to appear on the MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB™ lottery television game show. The players were randomly selected after submitting their MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB instant tickets into a second-chance drawing. Each will receive a five-day, four-night trip to Las Vegas, where the game show episodes are taped.

In all, since Sept. 17, instant players won $20.6 million and draw game players won $5 million, including more than $4.5 million from North Carolina draw games Pick 3, Pick 4, Cash 5 and All or Nothing. Mega Millions and Powerball players won $510,000 in prizes, including James Steele of Sunset Beach, who claimed his $10,000 win from the Aug.26 drawing this week. For last week, that was an average of $3.7 million in prizes per day.
