Carolina Cash 5 players saw the jackpot leap Monday night from more than half a million dollars to nearly three quarters of a million dollars – now estimated at $720,000 for Tuesday’s drawing.
If no ticket matches all five numbers, the new prize will be the largest for the game in more than two years.
It was the summer of 2013 the last time a Cash 5 jackpot of this magnitude rolled, when a $738,000 prize grew to $954,550 for the June 24 drawing. Lucky players from Salisbury and Hollister in Halifax County each had a lucky jackpot ticket, winning them $477,275 apiece.
The odds of winning the jackpot are always 1 in 575,757. But as the prize grows, so do the number of tickets sold, which increases the chances that one or more tickets will match all five numbers.
The largest Cash 5 jackpot ever won by a single ticket is $1.1 million. A player from Zebulon won it in the March 3, 2013 drawing.
