At $133 million, Powerball jackpot largest of the summer

As summer winds down the Powerball jackpot is heating up. Saturday’s $133 million annuity, worth $84.9 million cash, is the largest for the game in more than three months. We’ll be watching with everyone Saturday night to see what happens.

In other Powerball news, two players claimed $10,000 prizes this week. Michael Harrison, who works for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Greensboro, used family birthdays to pick his lucky numbers for the Aug. 29 drawing. He plans to put a down payment on a house and take a vacation. The other winner, Sharon Fox of Pinebluff, won in the Aug. 26 drawing.

Of the five new games that debuted on First Tuesday, two marked N.C. Lottery milestones. One was BBQ Bucks, our
first-ever scented lottery ticket. The other, of course, is Ultimate Millions. The $30 game begins with a chance to win four top prizes of $10 million, the largest instant prize players here have ever had the chance to win.

Speaking of millions, we had a
$1 million winner come to headquarters to collect her prize money this week. Wanda Stroud of Chester, S.C. bought a 50X The Cash ticket at the Food Lion on Mt. Holly Huntersville Road in Huntersville in Mecklenburg County. She said her winnings would allow her to buy a new car, share with her daughters and save for the future.

Three Carolina Cash 5 players won jackpots:

- Genova Webb of Monroe: $64,809 (Aug. 22)
- Charles Morgan of Laurel Hill: $53,000 (Aug. 30)
- Charles Hairston of Winston-Salem: $50,000 (Aug. 28)

Four players won $50,000. They are:

- Jewel Hayden of Charlotte (Junior Big Ol’ Bucks)
- Yput Mloduondu of Charlotte (100X The Cash)
- Charles Jacobs of Goldsboro (5X Crossword)
- Jose Bonilla of Winston-Salem (50X The Cash)

Other scratch-off winners include:

- Maria Gonzalez of Lillington: $30,000 (Double Match)
- Leslie Crockett of Charlotte: $25,000 (BBQ Bucks)
- Tincy Davis of Clinton: $20,000 (Lucky 13)
- Nine players won $10,000 instantly:
- Charles Goldstein of Durham ($200 Million Blowout)
- Marlon Spencer of Durham (50X The Cash)
- Larry Johnson of Fayetteville (Jumbo Bucks)
- Shelton Lemons of Greensboro ($200 Million Blowout)
- Sonya Satterfield of Hillsborough (100X The Cash)
- Michelle Overby of Kittrell ($200 Million Blowout)
- Valient Simoncic of Leland (50X The Cash)
- Heather Turner of Newland ($4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular)
- Barbara Sidwell of Vanceboro ($4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular)

That does it for lottery news this first week of September. Hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day Weekend. See you next time here in the Lucke-Zone.

How do you know if you have won second Chance lottery? NC Lottery
The lottery will first email the winner, using the email associated with the winner's Lucke-Zone account. We will follow-up with a phone call. And finally we will send you a certified letter.

I play on-line and scratch off tickets - I also am registered for Lucke-Rewards - my question is this - should I win a monthly drawing, am I still eligible to win at the 2nd chance drawings? For example, if I won the $5,000 in the upcoming Sept. contest, can I win the 2nd chance drawing for the million on the Ultimate Millions ticket? PS - it should be time for me to win!! :D NC Lottery
Yes, you can, MV. Drawings are separate and odds depend on how many entries in each. Good luck to you.

Do NC plan on selling book scratch offs..I saw online from a state that i cant remember right off hand that sells book scratch offs for 20 dollars..That would be nice and your chances probably would be better. NC Lottery
Thanks for the suggestion. We are aware that some state lotteries offer a "Play Book' of tickets. While we have no immediate plans to do that too, we will continue to evaluate whether or not they would fit into our future plans.

Panda 1975, I already said what u typed!!

9/09/2015 08:25 - Debora H.

How do you notify the winners? If you call and no answer do you call back? NC Lottery
We do call first and will try to leave a message. Then we will send an email. So keep your email with your Lucke-Rewards account up-to-date. Finally, we'll send a certified letter. Hopefully, we'll fine you with one of those.

I don't care what nobody say I love the state lottery I always wish we had 1. I used to play in Virginia to play now I can play in my own home town and surrounding areas. I have good and bad days playing I never won the second chance yet but 1 day I will I see some people win close by so I know it's coming soon I also live in Henderson and I notice some people win a good prize like recently someone won 50k and just this weekend somebody won 10k in kittrell that's right in my back yard.so I keep on playing til my name gets put on the lottery wall of fame.and I won some nice prizes this month and last month to I hit the 500 on the mayhem and found that dollar bill to win a 100$ on the maga Buck game just 2 name a few still waiting 4 a day lady luck calls me and I answer back good luck 2 all and that 2 NCEL 4 all you do.

This is September 8th, and I'm not able to view any of the 9/2 second chance winners from the winners link. Have the winners been posted yet? NC Lottery
The winners have been notified of their good luck, but we can't report the winners until they come in to claim. Stay tuned!

NC Education Lottery doesn't have the best customer service department. I will never call them for anything else. It was like conversing with a facetious teenager.

9/08/2015 12:21 - arita w.

When playing 2nd chances on lucke zone site do I hhave to do anything else besides enter my tickets to win.

9/07/2015 08:39 - Tiffany S.

I just wanna say one thing. Ok people get on here and vent all the time about the lotto is rip off. and nc lotto knows how i feel about it.. its a joke. When do you ever see anything about the lotto giving baack to community. why is the teachers under payed. why is drivers ed gone. why can the lotto pay out 30 million and trucks, trips etc, but cant do anything else. why you spend 500 dollarss in scratch offs and when a free ticket or enter 100 some tickets in 2nd chance and never when.........POINT IS lotto reads a bunch of stuff. but they still reply professional, never block people, noothing they read it. take it in and thats it. So i do give them credit for that i really do. the games might suck. and they read alot of crap but they stay professional.

9/07/2015 08:09 - roger l.

for all you people that are losing on the tickets in nc try sc they pay out more on there tickets. they only cost 10.00. i would like to know why tickets in nc are held in two diffarnt rooms so i hear one room holds 1m to 10m other rooms holds 10,000 and below why dont all tickets go out together.. i know yall keep up where the big winners go.

9/07/2015 04:59 - lisa p.

I agree tickets are no fun when they seldom win . I just bought nine tickets in a row and won five dollars on the last one. The new tickets this month are even worse than previous months. Haven't seen any five dollar tickets win over five dollars. I bought one 30 dollar ticket, no winner.??

9/07/2015 11:56 - charles d.

Played just one $30 ticket not a winner

9/07/2015 11:33 - Lauren T.

I recently bought multiple "Trucks and Bucks" scratch off tickets, mainly for the second chance drawing for a truck, but I also really like the additional scratch off game on the back of the ticket. So, I registered on this site to enter my tickets in the drawing for the truck, only to find that the drawings are over. No where on the card does it have an entry deadline for the drawings. that was the first bummer. NC Lottery
We're really sorry to hear this. That game is in the process of being removed from stores as all the top prizes have been claimed, and the drawings are completed. It's a good practice to check our website to see what promotions are going on, but we certainly understand that it's a bummer that you didn't have a chance in the truck drawing. However, you can still get points to enter into our weekly/monthly drawings. We wish you the best of luck!

9/07/2015 10:54 - randy k.

Has the winner of the Trucks and Bucks second chance drawing for a Brand new truck come forward to claim there prize? Good luck to whomever won.

9/07/2015 09:10 - ardra l.

People really be winning but in Henderson, Nc. There haven't been a big winning. Yes they win a couple of thousands. But know millions on scratch off or on the drawing games. I be entering in the second chance a lot. Look like or city all around win beside Henderson.

9/07/2015 07:59 - Andrea S.

To the player who said their friend bought 6 of the $30 tickets and only won $20, that they should at least be able to win their money back...umm, they apparently read their ticket wrong,or the clerk where they cashed it in ripped them off, because if you look right on the ncel page at that exact ticket info, the least you can win, is $30- or your money back! So your friend did not win only $20! Hope this info helps you and your friend.

9/07/2015 06:49 - perry w.

i agree with some of the loyal player the odds to win should be a little more rewarding,Thanks

9/07/2015 03:36 - nick s.

I di did not start playing til the beginning of the year and at the beginning I did nothing but lose it seems like but I didn't give up then I started winning 50s hunfreds, breaking even and losing some more. Friday I hit 400 on the $200 million dollar blowout with the win it all number 45 and all 20 prizes. One a 100 twoce, 50 once and a couple small on the 30$ tickrt. I've hit 100 on the casino riches and many 100s, 50s, 25, on 20 dollar tickets. Bottom line is you don't won I'd you don't play and you'll probably lose more in the beginning than won but budget and keep trying. I figured my own stratification strategy out that has been working great. K earn the odds a n d keeps tabs on the remaining prizes.

9/06/2015 10:51 - shironzo m.

There is no way someone only won 20 dollars from a 30 dollar ticket Player!! The least u can win is 30!! If u cant come up with a better comment please dont post!!

9/06/2015 08:56 - Tiffany S.

ok hold on a sec...first off i know lotto odds, etc. But what kind of entertainment or whatever you call it when you spend hundreds of dollars and when a free ticket. what kind of fun is it when you enter hundreds of tickets in second chance for nothing. then when you come on here to vent all that does is push your chance further back. yes it does, cant lie. period i dont like the mess i just think its a waste why spend 30 dollars on a dag gone ticket when thats gas, or movie, or dinner for faamily you know. its not allowed in my house. what wife does is on her. but if i see it its another story NC Lottery
If the lottery isn't fun, then it may be time to take a break from it. We do our best to offer games that are fair and entertaining, but we can see why they aren't for everyone. In the end, we'd rather see a lot of people playing a little bit, rather than a few people playing a lot.

9/06/2015 06:08 - Andrea S.

Thanks!!! The three new tires I need for my car, probably donate some supplies to local animal shelter, and not sure yet with the rest.

9/06/2015 02:17 - Andrea S.

Today,I just won $1,000 on one $30 Ultimate Millions!!! ;) Woohoo me! NC Lottery
Congratulations! Have any big plans for your winnings?

9/06/2015 11:31 - Lauren T.

I got the trucks and bucks ticket with back scratch, I scratched the back and got the win it all symbol. I was super excited, but when I scratched the prizes, every one was $2. So I won it all totally $10, total bummer. Then I scanned my tickets for the second chance drawings and they are over. No where on the ticket does it say when the promotion is over so that was a second bummer when bought multiple tickets specifically because of the second chance drawings! ??.

9/06/2015 08:24 - clifton w.

I agree they are a ripoff. Spent well over 10,000 dollars on this crap andwon probably 3,000. Need to put more winning money on tickets instead of just getting your money back. I tbink we need to team up and go to the state and get this abolish but know it want happen because they r making to much money off us that play them. It is a ripoff

9/06/2015 08:00 - Valerie R.

Seems like the second chance drawings take a while to show winners kinda skeptical about if folks actually win in this 3nd chance drawing have 100+ points to once again try and win will see what happens

9/06/2015 05:04 - Chester W.

better odds on ALL GAMES especially for the loyal players! I know playing the games is all about luck but you need to go back to the drawing board and make it right for the loyal lottery players. too many times people that never played , walk in a store 'buy a few tickets and win it all. If everyone played like that, I mean once in a while, there would not be a lottery. Hence, do make the odds greater for the everyday players. THX. Next, the odds for the powerball will be even greater. Price should drop to $1 per ticket and $2 for power play. Where is the app to scan for winning tickets??????????

9/06/2015 01:46 - Gregory R.

You win some and you lose some.

9/05/2015 11:44 - Christopher C.

When and what time does the NC powerball drawing occur this week? NC Lottery
Powerball drawings occur every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. Thanks for the question!

9/05/2015 02:44 - gloria g.

9/05/2015 02:02 - Tiffany S.

I have never bee on here bare with me. My wife plays the scratch offs, and 2nd chance, etc. But point is I told her stright up bring one more ticket in this house and marriage is over. I dont see how people can gamble there money. 3 and 4 hundreds of dollars for maybe 10 dollars. I notified the state auditors office just to see where all the money goes. Education lottery.. But the teachers are under paid and not teaching, drivers ed is gone. then they say more you enter the better your chance. yeah ok.. they just want more money is all wish yall luck but i dont indulge in the gambing habit. NC Lottery
Lottery games are meant for entertainment purposes, and we certainly don't encourage anyone to play a lot. As for where the money goes, we've got a great resource on our website at http://www.nc-educationlottery.org/beneficiary.aspx. You can see a county-by-county breakdown of exactly how lottery dollars were used in your area.

9/05/2015 01:17 - Joey C.

Sometimes you eat the bar and well.......sometimes the bar eats you. NC Lottery
Is that some kind of eastern thing? ;-)

9/05/2015 11:07 - James A.

You shouldn't play if you can't understand the odds against you.

9/05/2015 10:16 - joy r.

Oh!!!! I AM Next

9/05/2015 10:10 - Janice L.

I know several people that have bought the $30 ticket and have won -0-. You know there is something wrong when a person I know of that went in a store and purchased 6 of those $30 tickets and won only $20, come on. If someone is willing to spend $30 they should be able to won at least there money back.

9/05/2015 08:34 - Denver G.

You have to tease me to please me. That's what these $30 tickets are doing. I had a great week. I spent $300 on them and grossed $690! That's a net profit of $390. I was going to wait, but I'm glad I didn't !!!!!!

9/05/2015 07:38 - Michael B.

I've been playing all those Bingo games, and have yet to win any thing....I probably spent 600.00 worth of tickets over the last 2 months ( my total winnings s far= $5.00 dollors,,,,LMAO..!!! But hey, it's all good....every one cant win....but I still keep on hoping.........

9/05/2015 06:57 - RUFO A.

I'm still have faith in win the big prize :)

9/05/2015 12:56 - Christine H.

Yes there is! Im ready to win Big Money!!!

9/04/2015 11:28 - Gladys S.

yesterday 9/3/15 I went and purchase 6 ultimate millions, 1 gave me 2x25, the other $30. I paid $180 for $80. North Carolina lottery, you need to paid out more money to the people r you gone to loss supporter. if you don't do better, not many people will be paying $20, $30 for tickets.

9/04/2015 07:12 - Tiffany S.

ok i played the cash i matched 3 out of 4 numbers didnt win a dime. i spent over 500 some dollars in scratch offs and only one 13 dollars enter the rest in 2nd chance. from day one i been doing those 2nd chance never won nothing. Id say RIP OFFF. 30.00 ticket who comes up with this crap. 30 dollars for a ticket. ummm.. well um the winners for those already seem like a joke. i would not waste the money. If the lottery is for education then why they doing away with drivers ed? huh...You can pay a winner 10 million dollars but you cant help keep drivers ed thats sad. Stop scamming people.
