Nine lucky Powerball players in North Carolina got big wins in Saturday’s Powerball drawing as folks tried their luck at a record jackpot. The jackpot did roll, however, and will set a new record of $1.3 billion on Wednesday, or $806 million cash.
Four tickets are worth $150,000 and five are worth $50,000. Thousands of other smaller wins occurred for Tar Heel players in the drawing. The nine wins came in eight different North Carolina counties.
The tickets that won $150,000 were $3 Powerball Play tickets that beat odds of 1 in 913,000 to match the numbers on four of the five white balls and the red Powerball. The regular $50,000 prize tripled after the 3X multiplier was drawn in the drawing. Those four lucky tickets were sold at:
- Food Lion, Monroe Road, Charlotte, Mecklenburg County
- Hasty Mart, N.C. 42, Clayton, Johnston County
- Express Market, Taylors Bridge Highway, Clinton, Sampson County
- Freshway Food Mart, U.S. 117 South, Rocky Point, Pender County
The tickets that won $50,000 also matched numbers on four of the white balls and the red Powerball, but because they were $2 tickets the prize was not multiplied. Those five tickets were sold at:
- Kangaroo Express, E. Swannanoa, Liberty, Randolph County
- Pinedale Food Mart, U.S. 55 East, New Bern, Pamlico County
- Banoak Food Center, N.C. 10 West, Catawba County
- Han-Dee Hugo’s, U.S. 220 Business North, Randleman, Randolph County
- Kangaroo Express, Raeford Road, Fayetteville, Cumberland County
Winners have 180 days from Saturday to claim their prizes. Prizes between $600 and $99,999 can be claimed at one of the lottery’s regional claims centers in Wilmington, Greenville, Raleigh, Greensboro, Charlotte or Asheville. Any prizes $100,000 or larger must be claimed at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
Sales of tickets for games like Powerball have helped the lottery raise more than $4 billion for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in each of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.

Sometimes I will cash in a winning ticket at the store and jot down the lucky entry numbers so I can enter second chance drawings. Twice now, my ticket has told me that someone else has already entered my number. I believe that after I cash it in, the cashier must be entering on her smart phone for the second chance. Just venting but it does tick me off.
I hope alot of people win the powerball
Being that it's at 1.3 billion
Too bad it doesn't top out at like 50 million to where if it was 100 million in the jackpot, you would check your numbers to (2) 50 million dollar drawings ect. ect. So next drawing you would check your numbers to 26 drawings.. more happy winners for sure.
Til next time....in it to win it$$$$$$$$ 1.3. here I come;-)
