Good luck in the New Year

We will start the New Year with new games with big prizes. First comes a new "Bucks' scratcher with a top prize of $4 million. Then, a new draw game offering a top prize of $1,000 a day for life will start.

If you like playing the lottery, those are just two fun things to look forward to in 2016.

The fun begins with five new instant games going on sale First Tuesday, Jan. 5, with top billing going to Millionaire Bucks, a new $20 game that will start with three top prizes of $4 million and five prizes of $1 million. The odds of winning one of the $4 million prizes will be 1 in 2 million.

Two new $5 games begin: $300,000 Jackpot with four top prizes of $300,000 and a new crossword-themed game called Crossword Money Multiplier that offers four top prizes of $100,000. Two new $2 games will complete the set, including Double Lucky Diamonds with four top prizes of $30,000 and I Love Cash with three top prizes of $20,000. Tickets will be arriving in stores soon and should be in all locations by Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Our new draw game, Lucky for Life, is scheduled to start on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7. We are joining 19 other states to offer this regional draw game. True to its name, the game offers a top prize of $1,000 a day for as long as the winner lives. The second prize isn’t bad either: $25,000 a year for life. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 30.8 million and the second prize, 1 in 1.8 million.

Tickets will be $2 each. Drawings will be held on Monday and Thursday nights at 10:38 p.m. Stay tuned for more news about Lucky for Life.

The New Year will bring an exciting promotion for Carolina Pick 3 players. For a month, we plan to offer a Pick 3 Double Draw promotion. The promotion will feature a “Red Ball” drawing during our evening Pick 3 drawing. On nights when the Red Ball is drawn, we’ll immediately hold a second Pick 3 drawing. So your Pick 3 numbers on those nights will have two chances to win. Stay tuned for dates on when that promotion will begin.

On March 30th, the Education Lottery will celebrate its 10th birthday. Yes. We’re about to be 10 years old. So look for some fun games and promotions for our birthday.

I hope this 2016 the ncel put more winner prizes on the scratch offs tickets and give most players the chance of getting a piece of the pie. my husband is been playing those 30.00 tickets and so far he has not win a penny with them and I think the price is too high to not even get the 30.00 you pay for them back. I know that the ncel is in business to make money but they should be fair and let some of the players win some too. just saying !!!!!

A lot of people have been waiting a long time for the NCEL. to join this multi state game. I'm glad we can be a part of it now. Thanks for the heads up. Now we have plenty of time to deposit money into our subscription accounts for this game. We all know it takes for ever for monies to transfer. This is not a twice a day game like AON, pic3 or pic4, so there is NO reason we should not be able to buy tickets online. Am I right?NC Lottery

It would be great if you would notify your retailers and especially their associates to STOP tearing our tickets in half and trashing them, and instead offer them back to customers and promote the 2nd chance sweepstakes. ThanksNC Lottery

my luck was great in 2015. hope to continue in 2016. play pick 3 and never miss a drawing. when i have a dream about a number it has always come out the next day either day or night and i play exact muliple times. do not have to pay taxes on pick3 winnings.

Anyway you can report how much of the lottery funds go to each school in North Carloina or the county, or each school district and how they are spending.Since they always need money for new buildings,repairs and raising taxes to do so.And make sure its being spent on education !NC Lottery

Lucky for life sounds intriguing. It is concerning thinking that there is no minimum payment ones family would receive if someone died an untimely death. It would compound the anticipatory grief if I were to be diagnosed with a terminally ill disease before I was able to pay down some bills. These terms would obviously guide decisions on how to spend the money. But the odds are so much better than powerball etc. that game was ruined when the decision was made to increase the odds. But, I will try Lucky for life. With so many lottery options to chose from I need to be selective in what's the best game to spend my money on.
