Best of the week: Seven wins of $100,000 to $1 million

Is it just us, or has it felt like like Mother Nature has been conducting random drawings to determine what the North Carolina weather will be in January? As we ditch the snow and ice for spring-like temperatures this weekend, let’s take a look back at who Lady Luck smiled upon this week.

The biggest win of the week belongs to William Clark of Greenville. He scratched off a $1 million prize playing a $4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular ticket he bought at the Sheetz on Portertown Road in Greenville. With his claim, two more $1 million prizes and two $4 million prizes are still in the game.

Two Carolina Cash 5 tickets split Tuesday’s $470,762 jackpot and both winners have claimed their $235,381 shares. Victor Mendez bought his winning ticket at the Grab & Go on South Main Street in his home town of Lexington. Lindell Clark of Burgaw won on a ticket he bought at the Piggly Wiggle on Norwood Street in Wallace.

A third Carolina Cash 5 jackpot winner claimed the $61,533 he won in the Dec. 19, 2015 drawing. Donnie Price of Roanoke Rapids bought his lucky ticket at the Handy mart on Main Street in Scotland Neck.

Four, count ‘em four players cashed in $100,000 scratch-off wins:

- William Harper of Four Oaks (Jan. 13 Powerball drawing)
- Edward Rowe of Kenly (Super Bonus Bingo)
- Jerry Wise of Winston-Salem (100X The Cash)

Johnny Smith of Grantsboro won $20,000 instantly on a $4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular ticket. Four other players won $10,000:

- Elizabeth Alonso of Mount Airy (Jumbo Bucks)
- Michael Butler of Rockingham ($4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular)
