As jackpots grow larger, North Carolina tickets win big

While there was no perfect ticket for the weekend Mega Millions or Powerball drawings, seven tickets in our state won between $5,000 and $100,000.

Mega Millions tickets worth $5,000 apiece were sold at: Triangle D Food Mart on Creedmoor Road in Stem (Granville Co.); Adam’s Food Mart on Statesville Road in Charlotte (Mecklenburg Co.); and Speedway on N.C. 89 East in Walnut Cove (Stokes Co.).

A Megaplier ticket worth $25,000 was sold at the Glen Lennox Family Fare on Raleigh Road in Chapel Hill. In all, Mega Millions players in our state won more than $170,000 Friday night.

Two Powerball tickets worth $50,000 each were sold in the town of Huntersville in Mecklenburg County. One was purchased at the Harris Teeter on Sam Furr Road and the other at the Circle K on Hylas Lane.

A Power Play ticket worth $100,000 was sold in Iredell County at the Lakeside Food Mart on Williamson Road in Mooresville. In all, North Carolina Powerball players won more than $624,000 in Saturday’s drawing.

Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot is a $145 million annuity worth $88 million cash. Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot climbed to a $400 million annuity worth $244.8 million cash. Good luck, everyone!

You know while the JackPot amount is very appealing it is a lot for one ticket or even 3 as it usually gets divided. Just once it would be nice if when it reaches amounts like the Powerball is now to let 450 people win a million dollars. (across several states of course) If this ever materialized you would have a lot more than $450 million or $464 million whatever the amount is now. It could be a one time thing! I do hope the winner or winners do good things with the money and not squander it like we sometimes see in the news! Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone here like cars, If so, what's your favorite? I don't play the lottery only to become wealthy, However, I do consider myself to be "a true car enthusiust." Therefore, this passion for the automobile alone, drives me to stay in the game for as long as it takes for me to reach that maximum number on the billboard. I love to modify cars. Hopefully one day, instead of only modifying Nissans, I will be able to purchase my first exotic car. For the pourpose of modification of course. I am dreaming, thinking' and wishing for, a 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO, with 599 "xx" front, and rear carbon fiber spoilers, powered by a Ferrari F12 tdf 6.2L V12. All together, that one project car should cost me about 1.5ish Million U.S.D. to put together give or take, if my calculations serve me correct. We answered your first question about why a game might end even if there is an unclaimed top prize. Then we shared with you that the lottery doesn't keep its profits, they go to the state to benefit education. We aren't sure what $50,000 you're referring to; the lottery pays out more than $3 million a day in prizes. Why do you collect up remaining tickets with out ending the game? With a top prize unclaimed? So you just recollect the top prize to make room for another game? Many factors go into the decision to end a game. When all the top prizes are claimed, a game usually ends. But if a game is no longer popular or if other similar games are scheduled to come out, those are also reasons a game might be ended. The lottery does not keep its profits. After paying out prizes, ticket sale commissions to local stores and operating costs, all of the lottery's profits benefit education.

Well folks, looks like i might be buying another 2.00 dollar ticket on Wednesday for the Powerball. Maybe one ticket will do it for me! Just might pick up a dollar MM ticket also on Tuesday. Money is very tight right now. Just like 2015, was a very bad year for me and my wife! She just got out of hospital on New Years Day. Been in there since the 28th of December with Pneumonia. She feeling some better. Now she is trying to quit smoking, and it's been hard for her, but she has not smoke since that Monday, a week ago today. Hope she can hang in there and quit for good!
