Twin $1 million wins among 42 big wins this week

If you were to ask someone on the street: "How many prizes of $5,000 or more do you think lottery players win every week?" - What do you think the person's answer would be? Five? Twenty?

Well this week, the answer is 42. And four of them were worth $113,319 to $1 million.

The $1 million prizes went to scratch-off winners David Doub of Claremont, who won playing Millionaire Bucks, and Victor Harrington of Pittsboro who won playing Platinum 7's.

A $750,000 prize belongs to William McDuffie of Charlotte. He bought a lucky Jumbo Bucks ticket at the Raceway on Brookshire Boulevard in the Queen City.

And half of the $226,638 jackpot in the Jan. 31 Cash 5 drawing went to an Avery County man. Benjamin Stout of Newland claimed his $113,319 share.

Let's take a look at the other big wins. Six players won $50,000:

- Rita McBryde of Pelham ($200 Million Blowout)
- Lisa Scott of Kernersville (1/30/16 Powerball drawing)
- Delaina Hernandez of Yadkinville (50X The Cash)
- Richard Latalla of Charlotte (1/6/16 Powerball drawing)
- Stephen Phillips of Westfield (2/3/16 Powerball drawing)
- Jamila Girard of Fayetteville (Ultimate Millions)

Joshua Chapman of Mount Holly scratched his way to $20,000 playing 20X The Cash.

A dozen wins of $10,000 were claimed this week. The winners are from: Asheboro, Autryville, Clayton, Dover, Garner, Grifton, Henderson, Hillsborough, Monroe, Turkey, Wilmington, and Wilson.

James Hearst of Salisbury won $7,000 playing Lucky 7's.

Eighteen players from 17 different places won $5,000. They are from: Burlington, Charlotte, Clayton, Fayettevile, Greensboro, Greenville, Hoffman, Indian trail, Jacksonville, Matthews, Middlesex, Monroe, New Bern, Sanford, Shelby, Statesville, and Thomasville.

I ask that the official’s at the NCEL remember the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I promise you that attitude with increase your profits. Making the odds worse with each new card that is introduced is not the way to grow your business despite what you may think.

Thank you NCSL for your response to my inquiry to the ticket checking,it is so much easier to enter the tickets now then before,I had stopped entering tickets due to the long process of entering,however I know some of the retailers have a machine tht you can Chk ur tickets to find out if it's a winner or not,it would sure be nice for someone to crea te a App for our smart devices to do so,again Thank You.

When are they gonna be big hitters in GASTONIA NC my man n I always play.....don't get me wrong we have one couple dollars here n there but nothing big I juat feel as if there is no big scratch offs here its like we got to travel far n then most of the time no big win we can only go so far I got. 10 month old....give GASTONIA NC some good big winning tickets we pretty much been to every store in Gastonia

The NCEL is on BIG JOKE, I have never seen so many losing games in my life. We watched 66 tickets sold and scratch last night and there were 4 winners and 3 were money back and one was for $10.00 and it was a $5.00 ticket. This is just robbery and it gets worst everday.People can hardly win on anything they play anymore.Save your money people you are going to need it one day.

Again Virginia is rewarding their pick 4 number players while NC gives nothing back to the players. Va just paid out over 5 mill on the number 1212 two days ago. They drew the Quad 8888 and Quad 2222 a few months back, paying out over 5 mill each, then they drew numbers like 1191 and 1717 paying out big bucks. This is what the players expect from the lottery after keeping the lottery afloat. you got to give back to the players.

I liked the way the set up was before,when you could enter your ticket for points and if tht card was a winner,it denied your card from receiving points,also it would inform me real quick if tht scratch off was a winning card.im a avid player and believe in fairness to everyone,if you have a winning scratch off,then tht should be reward enough.Thank You NCSL for all you do in keeping everyone updated,YOUR GREAAAT .

No, because the only way we know where a big-winning ticket was purchased at a particular store is if someone scratches it off and claims the prize money :)

We don't share that information publicly because we don't want scammers to use the information. But if you do get an e-mail notification from us saying you won, you will always have the option of calling us at Lottery HQ to confirm it's legit! :)

Since now you have added the feature to scan your tickets in for drawing is there any way you can make it to where you can scan your instant tickets to see if you won and how much you won so you don't have to do it in the store?NC Lottery
As you know, it isn't currently a feature of the Lucke-Zone app. But we've had that request from lots of players and so hopefully we'll be able to offer it at some point.

you said that instant scratch off tickets are randomly distributed across the state so why does it seem like all the big winners are in the western part or coastal part of the state. you never hear of big winners in small towns. this new 20x win all game must not have a lot of winning tickets in the packs and no win all tickets.NC Lottery
If you read the blog long enough, you'll see that we have winners in all different kinds of places. We get similar questions/comments from players in every region of the state. The reality is it takes luck to win no matter where you live or play - big city or small town!

Lucke-Zone Replied Instant tickets are distributed randomly to more than 6800 retail locations across the state. The point I was making was that the programmers can know where the winning tickets go. That's how you know where a winning ticket is sold. If I was a programmer I could have the software report to me what store has a million dollar winning ticket and the serial number of the ticket. Is there any safeguard or audit of the software code to prevent this? If you think it can't be done you are wrong.NC Lottery
We have a third-party instant ticket vendor that prints the tickets. As with everything the lottery does, there are extensive security measures and audits in place to ensure fairness to all lottery players of all lottery games.

I'm with the player that said biggest part of winners on draw scratch off and 2 nd chance winners aware down east I rarely buy scratch anymore can't even win your money back my husband stopped to and now the power ball with more numbers you can guarantee it climb high every time the more the money grows grows the more the lottery gonna line there pockets I just really fell like it's rigged that my opinion. We are paying out more in prizes this year than ever before. All the money we raise goes to the state to support education programs. But if the lottery doesn't feel like fun, it's wise to take a break.

All tickets however they are purchased or where they are purchased have same chance of winning. When we write about big winners, $100,000 or more, we include info on where they purchased their tickets. So far, no big winners from a subscription purchase.

I have been entering the State Lottery for 42 years and never won as of yet. Hopefully, soon, I will. All these years has been in fun. Never spending more then $3.00 or $5.00, everyother week, which is the cost of a hamburger or a chicken sandwich. All this years it has been fun and glad that the money is going to schools and transportations. With all these new games and programs coming out, maybe I will win soon. Sure. We post the names of winners asap after they claim. We say winner notified when the winner has received the email about the win, but has not yet claimed the prize.

Lottery security officials conduct the drawings. The people who call out the numbers are hired by our draw station, WRAL. Just to make sure you know, lottery employees cannot play the lottery.

Hey, I like the LFL game already. Got 5 tics on Thur. won $6 on one & $25 on another. Not a lot , but enough to buy a few more between now & Mon. I was lucky enough to win $16 on the 1st drawing Monday and get 10 entries in the 1st 2nd chance drawing out of 35. I went to a gas station Friday & they still didn't have a clue, they thought LFL was a scratcher and said they didn't have any. It is the store owners and managers not training their employees, not the NCEL's fault. NC Lottery
