Faster growing, larger jackpots coming to Cash 5

Those of you who like the chance to win a big jackpot playing Carolina Cash 5 will get those chances more often thanks to changes coming to the game.

A new version of the game will start May 15. Carolina Cash 5 has been around for almost 10 years and it was time to follow the trend set by Powerball and Mega Millions to get bigger, faster-growing jackpots to keep the game exciting.

What’s changing? The range of numbers to choose from will move from 1-39 to 1-41. This makes the odds of matching all five winning numbers grow from 1 in 575,757 to 1 in 749,398. And, while the odds to match 2, 3 or 4 numbers will increase slightly, the prize amounts will remain the same. Another thing that isn’t changing is the ticket price at $1 per play.

These changes are what make it possible for the average jackpot we expect to see to increase from $158,000 to $225,000.

What is called a “multi-draw step-down” begins after Sunday’s drawing. Starting then, a player will be able to buy a multi-draw ticket for a maximum of 27 drawings. Each day the number of multi-draw plays possible will step down by one drawing until it reaches zero the day before the updated game begins.

If you have questions about the changes to the game or the step-down, the best way to get your questions answered is to call the customer service team between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at 877-962-7529.

From what I have read above, the NCEL needs to do some math homework. The overwhelming majority of comments from loyal players of the Carolina Cash 5 are totally against this new change from 5/39 to a 5/41 matrix. So my question is, if WE THE PEOPLE of NC oppose this new change in the game format, then why change it?? NCEL you may need to consider the people's opinions that pay all your salaries, before you announce a rule change of this magnitude. Wow, why not just introduce a NEW GAME???? Like Pick 5(11125) like OHIO, PA. The cash 5 for 2# really sucks. should get at least 10.00 it's hard enough. Come on NC, like someone said I to like Virginia's Cash 5-where you can play for .25, the whole ticket just need to equal 1.00. There should be a set winning amount for 2 or 3 #'s. Can't wait to see what this is going to bring.

I have to admit, the small payouts on less than all five #'s is pretty lame. But, when the pot gets above a quarter mil...people will play, whether they like the changes or not.

I am very disappointed by the changes also. Richmond County has had only one big winner here since MAY 2014. I have noticed other cities or towns have had multiple winner on cash 5. Now it's changing. That's not good for us players! I quit playing MM,PB and now it looks like i'm having to stop the Cash 5. Haven't been winning anyways on Cash 5. Not even raising the 50,000 to a higher starting amount sucks! I think Cash 5 is on it's way down! Cash 5 was the best game to play! I will stop playing this game now! Say it ain't so, Joe. I thought NC had better sense than the multi-state game controllers who doubled the cost of playing powerball. I do not like that, as I had a set of regular numbers I played and that NC can count on me spending that amount every week. With the change to $2, I now have to double my powerball budget without double returns on my investment/voluntary tax donation. Now you go and mess with Cash 5. Leave it be. And by that, I mean, night drawing only, no adding a daytime Cash 5. UNLESS you want to do like Virginia and offer 25-cent and 50-cent play options.

I usually buy only 3-5 Cash 5 draws. I have at times bought ten when there was a larger than a $250 thousand jackpot. I ALWAYS only match 2 numbers for a win of $1, if I match any at all, regardless of the number of draws I buy. Now you're increasing the odds of winning that lousy dollar! I've NEVER won anything over ten dollars on a scratch-off; I've seen people shell out $30 for a losing scratch-off... Guess I'll go back to playing in South Carolina.

Members of a popular lottery website were shocked when I told them the amount I won for matching 4 or out of 5 on this game. Apparently, secondary prizes are better in most other states. I would rather play a game with less numbers, lower jackpots. No more Cash 5 for me.

Really wish you weren't doing this. Perfectly happy with Cash 5 as it is, play it every single day. Sounds like you are just trying to get more money out of us. How about you just leave it the way it is? NC lottery is getting out of hand with all the xtra games and promotions that don't actually generate new winners, just more losers. Keep it simple and quit changing things every couple of months. If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.
