A big lottery win is great. When there's a great story to go with it, it's even better. And we had several this week.
After winning $4 million playing Millionaire Bucks, Michael Zimmerman of Liberty said he's going to have "an old-fashioned mortgage burning party." Zimmerman bought his lucky ticket on his day off at the store where he works, the Ready Mart on North Main Street in Randleman.
What's a better feeling than getting off work? How about winning $1 million on the way home. Dina Valdez of Raleigh did just that. After finishing a shift in the meat department at the grocery store where she works, Valdez stopped to buy an Ultimate Millions ticket and won the seven-figure prize.
Ralph Havis, the owner of the Beef Burger restaurant in Greensboro, came back to lottery headquarters this week for another $150,000. He won the prize on a $500 Cash ticket. He won the same amount in August 2014. “I never thought I’d be here twice,” Havis said.
After seven years of service, Jacob Yount of Jacksonville is leaving the Marines. And, thanks to winning the second prize of $25,000 a year for life in Monday's Lucky for Life drawing, he's got some prize money to start his new chapter. Yount said he plans to use his winnings to buy a house.
A split-second decision to buy a lottery ticket turned into a $250,000 win for a construction worker from Brunswick County. Dylan Hudson of Oak Island stopped for a taken of gas at the market Express on Seaside Road in Sunset Beach and bought a $250,000 fortune ticket - and won the game's top prize.
A Charlotte man won the $250,000 top prize in Sunday afternoon's All or Nothing drawing. Burton Ramberger bought his lucky ticket at the Kangaroo Express on Rea Road in the Queen City.
