Lucky for Life, again: 5th ticket wins $25K a year for life

For the fifth time in three months, a Lucky for Life ticket in North Carolina has won the game's second prize of $25,000 a year for life.

Someone bought the lucky ticket in Union County at the Food Lion on Idlewile Road in the town of Indian Trail.

The ticket beat odds of 1 in 1.8 million to match all five white balls, but not the gold Lucky Ball, in Monday's drawing. The winning numbers were 2-3-9-26-28 and 17 for the Lucky Ball.

Big Winners

The other second prize-winning tickets we've had so far were sold at:

- The Walmart on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville (April 25 draw)
- The Harris Teeter on N.C. 55 in Cary (April 11 draw)
- The Kangaroo Express on Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville (March 24 draw)
- The Pop Shoppe on West Friendly Avenue in Greensboro (March 21 draw)

Big Winners

To date, North Carolina has had 36 tickets match four white balls and the Lucky Ball to win $5,000 prizes.

A Lucky for Life promotion running through May 14 gives you an extra chance to win for free. Just make a $4 purchase on a single Lucky for Life ticket, and a free Quick Pick will be automatically generated at no extra cost. Just remember to ask for your free ticket to make sure you get your extra chance to win.

More states may join. But the odds never change. A ticket sold in North Carolina has just as good a chance of winning a prize whether there are 1 million or zero tickets sold in other states. Each ticket has the same chance of winning :-)

If you mean the drawings you use your Lucke-Rewards points to enter, the drawings are random. If you have one entry, you have a chance to win. If you have 10 entries, you have more chances to win :-)

I heard u can lump sum the money so after the lump of5.7 million or the 390,000 is the money then taxed or after lump sum and I taxed that's what the check amount will beNC Lottery
The lump sum amounts you cited are pre-tax amounts. In North Carolina, we're required to withhold 25% federal and 5.75% state taxes on the wins. So if someone opted for the lump sum on the top prize the after-tax value would be about $3.9 million and on the second prize it would be about $270,000 :-)
