Clock ticking on $100,000 Powerball ticket sold in Buncombe County

Someone bought a Powerball ticket worth $100,000 in the Dec. 5 drawing. And - unless the ticket shows up at lottery headquarters by 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 2 - it will expire.

The ticket was sold at Mountain Energy on Airport Road in Arden.

If the prize goes unclaimed, half the money will go to education and the other half will go back into the prize pool for players to have the chance to win in the future.

But Lottery players know as well as anyone how lucky you have to be to win a prize of this size. So we'd hate to see it go unclaimed.

With that in mind, if you know anyone who plays Powerball and lives in the western part of the state, please share this in the hopes it helps us find the winner in time!

Why are people not questioning why the 5x never drops in PB. Or how about that 10x??? Did you think we forgot about that? Explain how the multiplier is chosen and why we don't get to see it being chosen...I'm calling BS... NC Lottery
Sure. The Power Play multiplier is picked in a random drawing before each PB drawing. Remember, the 10X multiplier is only available when the jackpot is $150 million or less. You can see the odds for the multiplier here. http://www.powerball.com/powerball/pb_prizes.asp

You mean, the faked winner in Buncombe has not come forward to collect their acting fee. So what about that supposed $50,000 winning ticket sold in Marble, NC. in January 2016 that was never claimed? It's all fake as far a I'm concerned!

@LZ, what's up with the weekly drawing dates? It looks like u r having 1 on 6/1 and 6/15, but skipped over 6/8. WOW! To even get any numbers right on Powerball is pure luck! I stopped playing PB awhile back. Could not get any numbers correct, at all. I would play every drawing, only two bucks though! Now i have slowed down now, cause of the Cash 5 change. The LFL i only play on Thursday night! I'm hoping my luck will change soon. Good Luck everyone!

And it is also on the drawings page. The last 5 for $500 is 6/1 and the first 1 for $2500 is 6/15. Just saying , what about 6/8?

You shouldn't keep saying, ''if you know someone who lives in the western part of the state'', it was sold there, doesn't mean the winner was from there. Winner could have been from anywhere. Like friends/family visiting, or truckers/travellers passing through.NC Lottery
Well, you're right. We don't know that the person who bought the ticket lives in Western North Carolina. We've had out of state winners and, like you said, folks just passing through. More often than not, however, a winner lives or works near where they bought their ticket.

For some reason I can't scan draw tickets like powerball or cash 5..I can scan instant tickets with no problem. .when I try to scan draw tickets it says I've scanned an invalid ticket. .what's going on with the appNC Lottery
