Last week's best story was about a truck driver from Rocky Mount who hauled in a $10 million prize. This week's is about the owner of the Beef Burger restaurant in Greensboro who won $1 million - his third big lottery win.
You might remember Ralph Havis from his first win. “Some people talk about the fun things they would do if they won the lottery,” Havis said after winning $150,000 in August 2014. “But my fun is selling hamburgers.”
Then, just a month ago, he came back to headquarters for a second helping - he won $150,000 again. And this week we presented him with a check for his biggest win yet: $1 million on a 10X the Cash ticket.
Another $1 million win this week went to a couple from Buncombe County. Derendia Evans and Andrew Denison of Swannanoa are the latest players to win the prize playing Millionaire Bucks.
A pair of Lucky for Life players from Union County shared the prize money after winning the game's second prize of $25,000 a year for life. Jane Harris and Teresa Vaccarella, both of the Town of Hemby Bridge, won the prize in the May 9 drawing.
Bobby Lundy of Sanford wasted no time claiming his $328,041 jackpot after learning he won Monday’s Cash 5 drawing. Lundy, a retiree who works part-time at a golf course, had to get his wife to look at the ticket to make sure he wasn't seeing things.
Some people keep their Powerball tickets in their wallets. Others place their tickets on the dresser by the bed. Patricia Watley of High Point stuck her Powerball ticket in her back pocket where it stayed for two days after the May 21 drawing before she discovered it was worth $200,000.
