Seven. That's the number of times folks with a lucky ticket walked into lottery headquarters this week to claim a prize of $100,000 or more.
Carolina Cash 5 players collected four of the big wins - the largest of which belongs to a player from Clover, South Carolina. Brian Oxenfeld bought a ticket at the 7-Eleven on South Tryon Road in Charlotte - and used family birthdays to pick his numbers. It paid of in the Feb. 8 drawing when he won the $425,227 jackpot.
Another jackpot went to a father-son due from Madison County. Bradley and William Young, who live in the small mountain town of Marshall, won the $368,867 jackpot in the June 16 drawing.
The third Cash 5 jackpot winner didn't win the biggest prize, but he had the best story. John Manousaridis of Morehead City won $122,920 in the May 27 drawing - but didn't realize it for almost a month. Manousaridis travels often for the restaurant equipment business he owns. He bought his winning ticket at the Chicod store on N.C. 43 South in Greenville. Not expecting a big win, he tucked the ticket away with Cash 5 tickets for other drawings. When he finally got around to checking the tickets this week, he realized he was the winner.
And rounding out the list of lottery players joining the ranks of Carolina Cash 5 jackpot winners this week is William Boone of Greensboro. He bought a lucky ticket for Monday's drawing at the Fairway One Stop in his hometown - and won the $116,954 jackpot.
How about some big instant wins? A $200,000 one went to Eric Wade of Roxboro. He bought a lucky Carolina Black ticket at the Cruizers on North Church Street in Burlington. A childcare worker from Winston-Salem said a Wheel of Fortune ticket turned her bad day around. When she scratched it off, she won $150,000. And William Thompson, a landscaper from Raleigh, said the $100,000 he won playing Mega Bucks means he can buy a new house.
