Marine vet's lucky win means no more mortgage

Before we get to the week's biggest wins, let's get to some of the biggest news.

JACKPOT CLOSING IN ON HALF A BILLION: Right now, it doesn't get any bigger than the Powerball jackpot - a $478 million annuity, worth $330.6 million for Saturday's drawing. Will it be hit, split or roll?

DON'T MISS ENTRY DEADLINES: Sunday at midnight is the deadline to enter second-chance drawings for Ultimate Millions and Wheel of Fortune, and the deadline to enter the monthly Lucke-Rewards drawing for July, Firecracker Cash. Got your entries in?

FREE LUCKY FOR LIFE TICKET PROMOTION: Starting Sunday, make a single Powerball purchase of $8 or more and get a Lucky for Life ticket free. The promotion is available at stores and through subscription services. How does playing for a big jackpot and the chance to win the prize of a lifetime sound?

So let's rewind to Monday night. That's when Pick 3 players who had tickets for the number 5-5-5 split a $2.9 million prize payout. That was the biggest winner news of the week.

But it wasn't the only news. A woman from Charlotte scratched off a $1 million prize on a $200 Million Blowout ticket. Mickaelay Portillo bought her lucky ticket at the Petro Express on Wilkinson Boulevard in her home town.

A Marine veteran from Jacksonville won $750,000 playing Jumbo Bucks. William Parks Jr. said he plans to donate to his church, pay off his mortgage and save for retirement. He bought the $10 ticket that won at the Kangaroo Express on Piney Green Road in his home town.

And our third major instant win this week belongs to Tin Tin Soe of Lumberton. He is the first player to win the top prize in the new $400,000 Bonus Cash game. He bought his winning ticket at the High School Liberty on Fayetteville Road in his home town.

Big Winners

Two players claimed $50,000. Merle Ferguson of Statesville won in the July 20 Powerball drawing. Shakeela Allen of Monroe won on a $50,000 Bonus Cash ticket.

Six players scratched their way to $10,000:

- Barry Morgan of Greensboro (Millionaire Bucks)
- Jonatan Hernandez of Midland (Millionaire Bucks)
- Robert Driggers of Fayetteville (10X The Cash)
- Barbara Lesane of Fayetteville (Wheel of Fortune)
- Cindy Justice of Drexel ($1,000,000 Bonus Cash)
- Cameron Roseboro of Kings Mountain (Ruby Red 7's)

And a dozen more won $5,000, three of them from Charlotte and two from Raleigh. The other seven are from Clinton, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Linden, Salisbury, Tryon and Wilmington.

I want to know if I have 20 single tickets worth $500 and I go to Greenville to cash them. Will I have to pay taxes on it since they are individual tickets?NC Lottery
For total prize claims up to $599 it is up to the individual to claim their winnings on their taxes. For total prize claims of $600 or more the lottery is required by law to withhold taxes.

I'm still having problems when I try to enter promotions with changing the number of entries. I have to click all over the page before I find the submit button and confirmation button. So how do I know that my entries are truly in the mix to win.NC Lottery

Lots of members have asked how to see their entries and the drawing status. Go to the Lucke Rewards > Drawings page. Then scroll down to the bottom where Second-Chance Drawings are listed. You will see a small drop-down box off to the right hand side that defaults to the "ACTIVE" setting. If you click on it and select "ALL" it will display past drawings, and you'll be able to see your Ultimate Millions entries. As soon as we have a winner to announce, we'll share it. I have been playing Ultimate Millions from its start. I have won some money, but it is disappointing to buy 10 tickets and win nothing. Bad luck or are the odds totally wrong.

I would just like to congratulate Bill H. from McDonald NC. I see he won $5000.00 in June in the Money Mayhem promotion and then won $4000.00 the following month in the Sun-Sensational Summer promotion. I wonder what the odds of that happening are??

I don't think you understand what we are asking for regarding players ultimate million entries and the actual contest disappearing. We want to see our entries as they were and who won on the actual sight. If we a communicating with you, why do you tell us to call, why can't you call and let the players know what is going on. You are representing this sight correct. So stop passing the buck. NC Lottery
Sure. "View your entry history" let's you see all your entries. Choose 30 days of entries or all entries. Click on the winners' tab to see winners. You can look at "All" winners, "My Entries," etc. Hope that helps.

Why is it that all the tickets that have a 5X 10X 20x and so on always pay the smallest amount time after time. 5x= $2.00 10x=$2.00 on the smaller tickets.$20.00 tickets 5x = $5.00 all the time saw 11 just a few weeks ago and all were 5 bucks.Its hard enough to get a winning ticket so you could at least pay a little more than 5 bucks.Not much fun playing the Lottery.

It's part of the fun. A draw game ticket is worth anywhere from 1 to 5 times the rewards points of the ticket price, and instant tickets are worth anywhere from 1 to 10 times the rewards points. If you're lucky, a ticket is worth more points! :-)

If you are talking about The Winner's Board, the info is still there. The city listed is where the ticket was sold. Click on the image and you'll get the name of the store and the city where it is located.

From what I can tell all of the big winners seem to be Raleigh and east of Raleigh. I never hear of any big winners from my part of the state. I also agree about the Ultimate Millions comment I have bought a lot of those tickets, very few wins, with little payout. The last time I bought 3 tickets consecutively, and not one won, I said then I would never buy more than again, whoever said scam is right.

Please explain with detail. In the UM second chance drawing for 8-10-16 my entries are not "ACTIVE". The entries appear when I change drop down box to "EXPIRED", "MY ENTRIES" and "ALL". Seem if the drawing hasn't occurred that entries should not show up in the "EXPIRED" view. Something's fishy.

Also would love to see more winners in Rockingham Area and agree that the $30 tickets should have larger winning amounts. Good to get amount you spent on ticket back,but it gets boring after a while.

Players, Chillax! Your entries did not disappear! This happens every time a 2nd chance contest's deadline passes. Just go to the winners page scroll way down to the pull down tab that says "active". click on the tab and then click "ALL". LZ did this to clean up the winners page that was getting very very long.

Hi, to those wondering what happen to the points for 2nd Chance drawings~ I believe they have added the next drawing but not the date. Your points and entries are still there if you change the arrow to All instead of Active.

Sorely disappointed in the payouts on the $30 tickets. I cannot hardly count how many times I've purchased them and won ZERO or if you win something its the ticket price or under $50. Willing to risk $30 on one ticket with bad payouts. There should not be a prize under 2 times the ticket price. Certainly would not win a dollar twenty on a dollar ticket but if you willing to risk 30 times that percentage wise thats what they are offering

Have to agree with several of the comments about Raleigh and Charlotte always having winners,Fayetteville ALWAYS on the list with several winners,center part of the state rarely has a winner,been this way all along,would be nice if winning tickets were spread randomly EVERYWHERE.
