How about a dose of good news to end the week? We had 38 wins of $5,000 or more including two $1 million prizes over the last seven days.

A chef and restaurant owner from Charlotte was one of the seven-figure winners. Khoa Hoang was pumping gas for his girlfriend at the Royal Stop Citgo in the Queen City when he decided to try his lucky on three lottery tickets. The first ticket wasn't a winner, the third a $40 winner - and the third a $1 million win on an Ultimate Millions ticket.

Another Mecklenburg County winner was one of the week's biggest. Frances Gary, a retired hospital worker from the town of Marshville, won $100,000 instantly on a Mega Bucks ticket.

In the mountain town of Leicester near Asheville, Donald Stuart scrached off $1 million on a Platinum 7's ticket.

Rounding out the week's major winners is Greene County's Edward Shingleton. The Snow Hill resident won $150,000 on a $500 Cash ticket.

Big Winners

Lots of other folks in the Tar Heel State won substantial prizes this week. Eugenia Meza of Concord won $75,000 playing the Bonus Crossword Game that started on Tuesday.

Two players, Gregory Drake of Cheraw, South Carolina and Sara Clark of Chapel Hill won $50,000 apiece playing the $200 Million Blowout and Treasure Hunt games, respectively. Durham resident Candace Blake won the top prize of $30,000 on a Liberty Bills ticket.

Eleven more players scratched off $10,00 prizes:

- Charles Hamby of Millers Creek (Wheel of Fortune)
- Kelly Sluder of Asheville (10th Anniversary Spectacular)
- Jose Flores of Greenville (Ruby Red 7's)
- Brian Walker of Gastonia ($1,000,000 Bonus Cash)
- Ronald Bellard of Charlotte ($1,000 Bonus Cash)
- Wilfredo Chay of Silery City ($10,000 Bonus Cash)
- Laura Elize of Cary (Ruby Red 7's)
- Amy Christie of Rock Hill, SC (10th Anniversary Millions)
- David Rico of Winston-Salem (Millionaire 7's)
- John Andrade of Wake Forest (Wheel of Fortune)
- Najeh Hamid of Rocky Mount ($1,000,000 Bonus Cash)

Eighteen more won $5,000 prize, two of them from Greensboro. The others hailed from Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Elizabet City, Grantsboro, Hickory, Holly Springs, Lexington, Marion, Maxton, Mebane, Pikeville, Randleman, Southern Pines, Stantonsburg, Tarboro and Winston-Salem.

It's a Ruby Red Hot Summer out there you guys. Stay cool, stay safe, have fun - and good luck. See you next time here in the Lucke-Zone.

WOW I can't believe some of these comments. People just hating. I see nothing wrong with how people get tickets to enter second chance. They are not winning tickets. I pick up tickets all the time, some times off the ground at least I'm keeping the ground clean.lol

Should tickets be kept after entered for second chance drawings?NC Lottery
You don't need to.

@ LESHA - So being a Lucke-Zone member, you can see how much time we spend talking with folks about Lucke-Rewards and the value of entering tickets for points. If some lottery players choose to discard their tickets, there isn't anything we can do about who retrieves them or enters them for points. We will keep trying to let folks know they should keep their tickets and enter them for points - you can help us spread the word, too! :)

In the Cash 5 game video, why can't the public actually see the balls are being feed in the pick tube from the hopper bowel. I'm sure the public and myself would like to see this, so we all know it's not a rigged game.NC Lottery
There's a lot to fit into the short amount of time allowed for the drawings to be aired. You're welcome to come to WRAL studios in Raleigh to watch the entire drawing process, which always has an independent auditor present.

2nd chance Ha!I found out that there is someone going to a store and picking up a bag full of tickets he saves them for them. 2nd chances and all other tikets now the day i saw it i know thete had to have been over 100 tockets in that bag i know because it was a clear bag. Now I contacted the raleigh office and the woman in customer service had no problem with that. Her remark was the numbers are drawn at random so it should not affect my odds. Are you kidding me first of all i purchase my tickets and maybe all i can afford to buy is 2 or3 a week and now i find where there is a store that saves tickets to give to someone to input up to 75 tickets a night and yes it does change the odds. People please tell everyone if they are not going to put in for the second chance please take your ticket to a family member to put them on line and share the winnings. NC lottery should be concerned that this practice is going on.

How will be be notified about the drawings. I just want to make sure I don't miss an email. Will the email be titled the Lucky Zone. Thanks AndiNC Lottery
The question we get most often has to do with winner notification and winner announcements as it relates to Lucke-Rewards and promotional drawings. Winners are typically notified by email within 48 hours. So for a drawing held on a Wednesday, winners can expect a message by 5 p.m. Friday. If a winner does not respond to email notification, we will follow up with a telephone call and, if necessary, send certified mail.

Harnett County here again. Whenever I find myself in Wake or Cumberland counties, I buy my tickets there, hoping the odds will be better. Nothing, so far, though . . .

7/12/2016 09:25 - Mike S.

Thanks for your response. I understand blog moderators can't change the website but you can pass along ideas and suggestions to the webmasters and database administrators, like you indicated to Meka. All we need is the numbers of entries!

7/11/2016 06:21 - Lavern H.

In the second chance drawings by what means do you contact the winner and i noticed i was unable to entry 1st tuesday tickets????NC Lottery
Winners in Lucke-Rewards drawings are typically notified by e-mail within 48 hours of the date of the drawing. If we don't get a response we'll call or send certified mail if necessary. If you are experiencing a technical issue, please click on the HELP link at the top of the screen and fill out an ONLINE SUPPORT form.

No big winners in south eastern nc just like I blogged about earlier this year its from Fayetteville on up that win the big prizes just like your map indicate.NC Lottery
The biggest lottery winner in state history is from Brunswick County, the most southeastern county in the state. It's all a matter of luck. Here's a link to info about lots of other winners from the most southeastern counties: http://bit.ly/29CFanJ

@ 87SUPERGLIDE - The blog moderators can't make updates to the way the website is built but we do our best to answer questions. We get a weekly report with how many entries have been made so if someone asks we're glad to share. Lucke-Rewards drawings are different from traditional draw games and instant games - Lucke-Rewards drawings are more like raffles where the odds vary depending on participation. Keep in mind too that the Rewards drawings are extra chances to win at no additional cost. We wish you and all the members the best of luck!

7/11/2016 08:37 - Mike S.

In regards your reply to Meka's post above it seems you only reveal how many entries have been submitted when asked. How about adding the number of entries received to the game entry page? I've seen this requested from others but LZ said it wasn't set up that way. If you can pull the numbers to post here it can be added to the individual game sections. Players want to know what the odds are and it's on all of the other games NCEL puts forth!

7/11/2016 08:35 - Stephen R.

I hope you can post some winners today , it's only been 5 days since it was drawn . I know you said 48 hours but this is just lazy .NC Lottery
What we always say is that winners are typically *notified* within 48 hours of the draw date. We cannot announce a winner's name until he or she completes the claim process, which can take days or weeks. Here are more answers to common questions: http://bit.ly/1kVZKkg

When the drawings become astronomically huge, it would be GREAT, if just ONCE, they would say, "tonight, 25 winners will be chosen to win 10 million dollars apiece. Spread the wealth

Happy for the lucky winners. I want quit playing, my time is coming.

"Lucke-Zone Replied It's not easier to win the lottery if you live near Charlotte. There are just LOTS more people taking a chance to win there. You don't have to take our word for it - ask someone who lives near Charlotte :-D Good luck to you!" ************************************************** So true however,on the other hand, the winning tickets HAVE TO BE "IN THE AREA" to start off with for someone to win ! I do have to say though, the winners are indeed spread out over the state...that's easy to see on the map.

7/09/2016 07:59 - Denver G.

Once again, NICE map! And once again it shows wins from the coast to the mtns. and every where in between. If you look close there are only 4 red dots out of 38 that are close to Charlotte.

7/09/2016 05:40 - clifton w.

It's kinda of funny how all those red dots are all around Charlotte area send some of those down here to the beach areaNC Lottery

Wow, what luck!

7/08/2016 11:30 - gregory g.

And it only took one chance

7/08/2016 08:57 - Leslie B.

Congrats to the winners! And I have to share. For the first time ever, a gentleman prayed with me when I bought two $30 ultimate tickets. It was so nice of him! I'm blessed.

7/08/2016 08:20 - SHANNAN B.

I have 2 suggestions. 1) Can you please add a counter in the dashboard to show how many tickets have been entered for the day? Yes, I know that one can go to the history which shows 50 per page. But it would be nice just to have the counter in the dashboard. 2) In the history section of the subscription area, could you add a repurchase button beside each set of numbers? As it is now, one would have to manually select the numbers in the purchase tab. It would really be nice to have a repurchase button. I know there is a place to extend but after the number expires, there's no way to repurchase without doing it manually on the purchase tab. Just a couple of ideas. Thanks, NCEL, for the good work you do!NC Lottery
We'll forward your suggestions! Thanks for the kind words.

7/08/2016 08:07 - Betty K.

Congratulations to all the winners. Can't wait to see my name on the winning list!

7/08/2016 07:05 - Tomeka W.

Never Lagrange NC or Goldsboro, it's all designed for out of town. I've been playing second chance since it began and never not once got contacted about a win, I was told by officials that it's picked in random and not the most points. Is this a gimmick too?NC Lottery
As with all lottery games - scratch-offs and draw games - it takes luck to win in a Lucke-Rewards drawing too. There were more than 1 million entries in the Sun-Sational Summer drawing, and 319,094 entries in this week's Winning Wednesdays drawing. Here's a link to many pages of info about winners from your area: http://bit.ly/29wtmmG
