Since Lucky for Life came to North Carolina seven months ago, seven players in our state have won the game’s second prize of $25,000 a Year for Life. Each of them was just one Lucky Ball away from winning the game’s top prize of $1,000 a Day for Life.

Now – thanks to a special promotion running through Sept. 10 – you can get a free chance to win the prize of a lifetime!

Here’s how it works: Make a single $8 Powerball purchase at a store that sells lottery tickets and you’ll get a Lucky for Life ticket for free. When you make a qualifying purchase, you will hear a “Free Ticket message” and a Quick Pick will be printed at no extra cost. Or, you can buy online through subscription services.

Big Winners

Take advantage of this offer as often as you like for the life of the promotion. But remember you get one free ticket per qualifying transaction. For example, if you plan to buy $16 worth of Powerball tickets, you would have to make two separate $8 purchases to get two free Lucky for Life tickets. Full Promotion Details.

Like Powerball, Lucky for Life is a multistate game with big prizes. But instead of a jackpot that grows larger until it’s won, Lucky for Life has unique lifetime prizes. And whereas Powerball drawings are held Wednesdays and Saturdays, Lucky for Life drawings are held Mondays and Thursdays.

There have been 4 $1M winners with one person winning twice. All of the $1M wins were between 2013-2016. One person has also won 22 times with 20 wins of $1K and 2 wins of $4K. Remind you, NCEL only lists winners of $1K or more so no telling how many $100-$500 wins they have. ***************************** WOW ! Smith or Jones for a last name I would not wonder about but Patel ?! Again, one store owner in Sanford with the last name of Patel has won a million bucks and several more 10K wins I believe it was. Know for sure I won't buy scratch off tickets at HIS store or any others for that matter, vending machines for me ! Come to find out, the only way to get your free LFL ticket is to purchase four $2.00 tickets, all on one ticket. It took me $16.00 to find this out, I guest this is how you get to make more money by not explaining how the $8.00 has to be spent to receive a free LFL ticket. I know myself and other players would like for you to explain more in detail on how to receive a free ticket on your next promotion to save us from spending more money then we have to, thank you.

Why are some gas stations refusing to cash any thing over $100? They didn't say we are low on cash but go somewhere else we don't cash over a $100.NC Lottery
We encourage retailers to cash prizes and some do, up to $599. But they are allowed to have their own policy on that, some prefer to keep less cash on hand is one reason. A grocery store is usually a good option to cash a larger prize. Hope you win $100 again sometime soon! :)

Just so there isn't a misunderstanding, our website does not have the entire history of lottery winners. Players in our state have won billions in prizes over the last 10 years. Our site will not have the particular search/sort research function that you described.

Why is it that I can add money to my wallet and you have my billing address, but when I try to spend it, you can't replicate my device? I have no home Internet and my employer blocks lottery websites. The only way I can play is over my phone. I deposit money with no problems, a minute later I want to check out and you can't find me. Doesn't make sense. Suppose I was on vacation and wanted to renew my subscription, which is linked to a NC billing address, and I'm not able to play because I'm on vacation in Hawaii? It isn't a lottery requirement, it's a state law requirement. It is against the law to make a purchase from the North Carolina Education Lottery unless you're in the state of North Carolina. It is not against the law to add money to your wallet, to enter tickets, or use points you earned on tickets to enter drawings.

Retailers are allowed to cash claims up to $599. But stores are allowed to have their own policies. For claims on the high end of the $599 limit, a grocery story is often a good place to go. If you were to come to our Raleigh claims center and claim $600 or more all at once, we are obligated to withhold required taxes.

Good advice Colonel. To the player with the one transaction for $8. Was it on 1 ticket or 1 play slip? I just came from a store where that happened. The clerk gave him 4 $2 tics & he was upset he did not get his free ticket. I told him to not except the 4 tickets because that was NOT what he asked for. They then gave him his $8 ticket & free LFL ticket. They won't have a problem selling those other tics, it happens all the time. When ever there is a promo how you order your tickets is VERY important!

Were they single purchases of $8? Because if you were to make four $2 purchases or two $4 purchases, the system will not generate a ticket. If you do make an $8 purchase, please ask the clerk for your free Lucky for Life ticket. And if you experience an issue with that, please call our security team at 888-732-6235 to share the details with us.

The question we get most often has to do with winner notification and winner announcements as it relates to Lucke-Rewards and promotional drawings. Winners are typically notified by email within 48 hours. So for a drawing held on a Wednesday, winners can expect a message by 5 p.m. Friday. If a winner does not respond to email notification, we will follow up with a telephone call and, if necessary, send certified mail. We announce a winner’s name only after he or she has responded to notification and completes the claim process.
