$1 million win on the coast tops best of the week

Charles Rollins was working on a construction project when he stopped by the Pinedale Food Mart in New Bern. He was planning to get a Powerball ticket - but decided to get an Ultimate Millions scratch-off ticket too. And it won him $1 million.

"I was in shock," he said. "It took me 30 minutes just to drive down the street." Rollins has an even longer journey ahead - back home to Whitwell, a small town just north of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Further down the coast, three players from Wilmington won $10,000 each:

Four players from Charlotte claimed prizes, including Lareen Matthews, who won the $120,282 jackpot in the Aug. 16 drawing. Daishaun Stitt won the top prize of $30,000 on a $2 Lucky Gems ticket. Suzanne Meadows won the top prize on a $1 Lucky 7's ticket. And Collin Thomas won $5,000 instantly playing Jumbo Bucks.

Five more players in nearby places won big:

West of there, Pamella Walker of Gastonia won $5,000 on a Loose Change ticket. And two players - Frances Hart of Conover and Diana Larson of Flat Rock - won $5,000 in recent Lucky for Life drawings.

Moving back to Central North Carolina and places in and around the Triad, five players came forward to collect their winnings:

Four players in the Sandhills won prizes, including Rosemarie Love of Fayetteville who won the $86,625 jackpot in the Aug. 19 Cash 5 drawing. The others are:

- Cheryl Mcleod of Southern Pines: $10,000 ($1,000,000 Bonus Cash)

Following the road north toward the Triangle, Nai Soe of Carrboro won $10,000 playing Platinum 7's. East of there, more winners won lottery prizes, too:
