Small town, big city players win $1 million each

The last full week of summer was a lucky one for 31 lottery winners in North Carolina. Two players - one from a tiny town, another from one of the larger cities in the state - won $1 million each.

Stephen Hinnant is from Sims - a place in Wilson County where less than 300 people live. He bought a ticket for the $4,000,000 Platinum Payout game at the BP on N.C. 42 in Wilson and it made him the first $1 million winner in the game. Four more $1 million prizes and three $4 million prizes have yet to be claimed.

Durham, on the other hand, is home to more than a quarter million people. That's where Joycelyne Brown bought a Ruby Red 7's ticket at the Circle K on N.C. 55 - and won $1 million. There are two more $1 million prizes and two $4 million prizes remaining.

Four players won six-figure prizes:

- Tamico White of Rocky Mount: $200,000 (Fat Wallet)
- Ryan Jerry of Knightdale: $200,000 (20X The Cash)
- Gerard Muir of Cary: $150,000 (8/17 Powerball drawing)
- Sarah Craft of Durham: $149,744 (9/11 Cash 5 drawing)

Big Winners

Two Cash 5 players split the $155,970 jackpot in the Sept. 6 drawing to win $77,985 each. They are Ralph Clark of Greenville and Frederick Littlejohn of Greensboro.

A Bonus Crossword ticket spelled $75,000 for John Lilly of Wake Forest, making him the second top prize winner in the game. Two top prizes are still out there.

Kathy Burchette of Granite Falls Megaplied her way to $20,000 in the Aug. 30 drawing.

Seven players scratched off $10,000 wins:

- Troy Lingerfelt of Connelys Springs ($400,000 Bonus Cash)
- Geiler Fuentes of Durham (Jumbo Bucks)
- John Robinson of High Point ($1,000,000 Bonus Cash)
- Deyna Robinson of Raleigh ($4,000,000 Multiplier Spectacular)
- Vaneeca Odom of Kernersville (Wheel of Fortune)
- Joan Brock of Beulaville ($1,000,000 Bonus Cash)
- Samual Poarch of Morganton ($4,000,000 Platinum Payout)

Two players, Linda Everidge of Hamptonville and Lance Marshall of Black Creek, won $7,000 each thanks to $1 Lucky 7's tickets.

A dozen players, two of them from Charlotte, won $5,000 prizes. The other winners are from Crouse, Denton, Fayetteville, Garner, Mocksville, Mount Olive, Rockingham, Salisbury, Trinity, and Winston-Salem.

The NC lottery is nothing but robbery without holding a gun on you. It is the biggest joke to ever hit this state. I see people spending there last dollar trying to win enough money to pay there light bill. I know no one makes you play but it is just so sad to see people so weak and needing help so bad that they spend there last $. Say a woman yesterday but 8 $30 tickets and not one was a winner 8 tickets in a row. What a shame. Then say a man buy 6 $20 tickets and not one winner 6 in a row. Lottery games in our state work the same way they do in other states: Most tickets don't win prizes - that's what makes it possible for a $30 ticket to be worth $10 million. We encourage folks to play for fun, only with money they can afford to spend on entertainment. Because you always have to beat the odds to win a prize big or small. Sometimes it just takes one ticket to win a prize.

I would love to win the second second chance drawing in the warehouse dash. I see the drawing will be on October 12 which is our 14th wedding anniversary, now that would be a great gift. Need to get away for a while, PLEASE.

The $4,000,000 Platinum Payout game has more than $100 million in prizes. None are less than the ticket prize of $20. A $2 prize can be revealed as one of the 20 possible prizes on winning and non-winning tickets, but with winning tickets it is used in a combination with a multiplier such as 20X to produce at least a $40 prize. So a winning ticket with a $2 prize would mean a winner had at least doubled his or her money. With the amount of money the NCEL takes in on a daily basis. I belong to a few online lottery groups, and track lotteries in a few other states, and members post winning tickets on regular basis. 2 wins of $5,000 for a week seems like petty cash for a city as large as Charlotte. Imho. After all aren't we all in this trying to bring some extra bucks in our lives ;-) ? The new fancy $20 tickets are giving out multiple $2 prizes; it almost seems like a joke, but the joke is on the players.

They haven't "dashed" yet. And I'm not sure that we've been given a report on the cash value of the merchandise past winners have collected on their dashes. That's a step beyond the prize that we award, which is just the trip and the opportunity to participate. But maybe after this occasion we can get that info for you.

Lucke-Zone Replied It's not easier or harder to win the lottery depending on where you live or play. If everyone in the state moved to the mountains, everyone who won the lottery would be from the mountains. If everyone moved to the beach, everyone who won the lottery would be from the beach. It's all random luck, there are just more folks taking a chance to win in some places. Good luck!************************* IN all fairness that's not an exactly precise right answer...the winning tickets ( per scratch offs) must be IN a specific area before anyone can buy/ win from that area but yeah...I do believe LZ when they say it's random !

We spend money just like everyone else. There have been no big winners in Lumberton, St. Pauls, Pembroke, Maxton, Red Springs, etc. "Robeson County".NC Lottery

Congrats to all those lucky players from east to west ALL across NC. Off subject, but on another blog a player said he got over 100 free LFL tickets with the same exact LB numbers of either 3 or 6 & said that was "fishy". I say come on man! That was only a 6 week promo. You would have had to spend about $1000 to get that many free tickets. How big was that fish player? LOL. Luckyred, I feel ya man & I hope you know I'm just bustin on you. I bought a $6 LFL ticket 8wks ago & all 3 LB's were 6 and I've been replaying that tic ever since just waiting for it to hit!
