Students at Weeksville Elementary School in Elizabeth City have a new place to play thanks to Stephanie Ambrose and her nine-year-old son Skyler.
Ambrose was one of 10 people to win $20,000 as part of the lottery’s Proud Moments In Education contest. She won the prize, after she shared how Skyler raised money for a new playground at the school.
She donated $10,000 of the prize money to help the school meet its funding goal.
“This has been great,” Ambrose said. “You’re hoping they can do things to raise enough money, but it’s such a huge amount so you don’t know. The prize money is what made it all come true.”
The school held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new playground in November. Skyler got to cut the ribbon, and was the first person to go down the slide.
Ambrose says this experience taught her son an important lesson.
“I thought it was so neat he was able to see this problem and come up with a solution,” Ambrose said. “I’m proud and I’m so happy.”

I agree, it's the selfless people we need more of.
