$1 million Cash 5 jackpot nears record territory

The Cash 5 jackpot has reached the $1 million mark for the first time in nearly four years. If just one ticket matches all five numbers, it would place whoever bought it among the game's biggest winners ever.

The estimated jackpot is $1,010,000. But, depending on ticket sales, the actual amount could be even larger.

The last time the jackpot topped $1 million, it led to the biggest single jackpot winner in the game's history. Homer Buffaloe, a farmer from Zebulon, won $1.14 million in March 2013.

The current jackpot run began with the drawing held on New Year's Eve. It is only the fourth time in more than 10 years that a jackpot has rolled into seven-figure territory.

The biggest Cash 5 jackpot ever was $1.35 million. It was split by three lucky tickets that matched all five numbers in May 2011.

@ BIGMIKE - An update to the app that is being worked on now will offer the scanning feature you are talking about. Some stores have their own internal policies about when employees are allowed to play. If you ever see something that concerns you at a retailer, please call our security division at 888-732-6235.

I think u guys should add a feature to the app. Just like u can scan tickets to get points but u can scan ur tickets to find out if u won or not. I'll just take a 5 percent royalty from it haha. But it would be great to be able to scan your own ticket to see if u won instead of having to go to the store. Also, are there any rules about store employees buying tickets while on the clock? I know of a store where the girls wait for people to buy tickets and then turn as soon as nobody comes back to cash em in, they will buy em until they win. I used to win from this store all of the time but now I dont ever win from there. It shouldn't be allowed but the store owner does it too so going to him will not accomplish anything. Thanks. Starflite Convenience Store on Hamlet Avenue. I was in that store asking them about their big winners they have had lately. Now he said that, he had a 1 million dollar winner just recently. I'm guessing, they have not claimed it yet.Just wondering who it was. Thanks!

Well I went and splurged last night[1-11-17] and got me 10 bucks worth of Cash 5. The wife agreed to it since it was so high. Thinking maybe of having a chance of winning last night! Well i was wrong, did win 2.00 bucks out of 10 dollars worth. Long story short, just bought 2 dollars worth of quick picks for tonight's drawing! it only takes one, Right? So here is hoping my two dollars worth has at least one of the winning numbers! Last big win on Cash 5 for Richmond county, was May 2, 2014. So here's wishing me and everybody else some luck!

Just wondering, if all those players out there having trouble entering the lucke-rewards code on their tickets are newbies that don't know about the letter "O". Never ever use the letter "o" . You must enter the number zero, "0"!!! There is NO letter o in the lucke-rewards entry code on draw tickets. You can enter MM, PB, LFL & cash5 tickets the same day you buy them. Pick3 & pick4 tickets can only be entered for points the next day. As far as scratchers go. Enter the 12 digits on the back 1st then the 12 on the front of the ticket next.
