As jackpot grows, 2 Powerball tickets win $50,000

Two lucky Powerball tickets in North Carolina won $50,000 prizes Saturday as the estimated jackpot annuity for Wednesday's drawing climbed to $170 million ($103 million cash).

The winning tickets were sold at the Kangaroo Express on North Harrison Avenue in Cary and at the Breeze Thru on Old N.C. 86 in Hillsborough.

Both matched four of five white balls and the Powerball. The winning numbers were: 23-25-45-52-67 and 2 for the Powerball.

@ 87SUPERGLIDE - There is a difference between a commission and an incentive. Retailers always earn a 7% commission on ticket sales. Whereas a $2 Powerball ticket earns a $.14 retail commission, a $3 Power Play ticket earns $.21 (50% more). The retail incentive for selling a Match 5 winner on a $2 ticket has always been $1,000 and on a $3 Power Play ticket it has always been $10,000. Because we are emphasizing the Powerball Power Cruise promotion in February, we wanted to make sure retailers are educating and reminding players that Power Play could turn a $50K prize into $500K or a $1M into $2M. And that, just for Power Playing and entering tickets here, they could be going on a cruise. We're excited that the Powerball Power Cruise will send players from our state on a Carribean adventure -- and we hope to see some big Power Play wins, too!

Why did you disable the feature that showed if your ticket being entered into the second chance drawing was a wining ticket??? It was very good customer service, and now it does not work! Why?NC Lottery
It was not a feature that was disabled. When the Lucke-Rewards program began, only non-winning tickets were eligible for rewards points. Then, we expanded the program to allow all tickets -- both winning and non-winning -- to earn points. When that changed, informed us they had been using the ticket entry system as a "ticket checking" system. But it was not designed to serve that purpose. However, an updated version of the app is being developed right now that will allow you to scan your ticket to see if it is a winner. So stay tuned!

Get ready for the Powerball Powerplay up sell starting Feb 5th. Retailer incentives are increasing to 21% (50% more than standard) for each ticket they sell with the Powerplay and the bonus for a ticket matching 5 white balls is increasing from $1k to $10k - a whopping 900% increase.NC Lottery
We do have a special Powerball promotion for players from Feb. 5 - March 26 that will send winners from our state on a 5-night cruise for two to Key West and Cozumel. But the commissions a retailer can earn and the incentives they have the potential to receive for selling big-winning tickets are not being increased or adjusted in any way. Yes. Chances of winning by playing through web-based subscription are exactly the same as if you buy a ticket at a store or from a vending machine. But the vast majority of tickets are still sold at retail locations.

Depends on the particular second-chance promotion. For example. Every entry people made into the preliminary Panthers second-chance drawings for the VIP experience are automatically entered into the second-chance drawing for the grand prize 20 years of season tickets. But for Ultimate Millions or Extreme Millions, second-chance entries are for the drawing associated with a particular entry period.
