To start New Year, three $1 million wins statewide

For many in North Carolina, winter weather is the big news. So first and foremost, we hope everyone stays safe and warm. With that said, there is lottery winner news to share too.

The headline says it all. Already in 2017 we have had three players win $1 million prizes.

Mark Vanzant of Lexington won playing Extreme Millions, making him the second to win $1 million since the game began last month. He bought his winning ticket at the Pickett Food Mart on Biesecker Road in his hometown.

Another $1 million winner is Christopher Poulos of Asheville. He bought a lucky $200 Million Blowout ticket at the Ingles on Merrimon Avenue in Asheville on New Year's Day.

The third seven-figure prize belongs to Linda Thomas of Chadbourn. She won on the Carolina Millions ticket she bought at the Peacocks Stop on Peacock Road in her hometown.

Big Winners

Cash 5 jackpots paid off for three winners, too. Players on opposite ends of the state split the $435,216 jackpot up for grabs in the Dec. 21 drawing. Norman Rogers of Weaverville and Peter Miller of Southport won $217,608 each. James Alston of Durham had the only ticket to match all five numbers in the Dec. 30 drawing, winning the $459,556 jackpot.

A Carolina Panthers ticket put $200,000 on the scoreboard for William Jones of Leland. “My wife bought the ticket for me as a stocking stuffer,” Jones said. “It’s a pretty good Christmas present that’s for sure.”

Todd Glover of Raleigh won $100,000 playing the $4,000,000 Platinum Payout game. He bought the winning ticket at the Wake Cross Roads Express on Forestville Road in Raleigh.

Eight prizes of $20,000 to $75,000 were awarded:

- Monroe Harris of Roanoke Rapids: $75,000 (Bingo Boxes)
- Sandra Jarrett of Shelby: $50,000 (Extreme Millions)
- Hugh Jacobs of Harrisburg: $50,000 (Extreme Millions)
- Bryan Allen of Raeford: $50,000 (Extreme Millions)
- Benjamin Stewart of Holly Springs: $40,000 (Winter Winnings)
- Edna Boone of Magnolia: $20,000 (Celebrate 2017)
- Dave Henning of Statesville: $20,000 (Extreme Millions)
- Emad Guindi of Haw River and Mina Botros of Durham: $20,000 (Ultimate Millions)

Players won 21 prizes of $10,000:

Martha Osbourne of Rockwell won the top prize of $7,000 playing Lucky 7's.

Twenty-five prizes of $5,000 were awarded. Two of the winners are from Chapel Hill and two others are from Durham. The other winners are from Bessemer City, Cary, Charlotte, Cherryville, China Grove, Concord, Cornelius, Greensboro, Greenville, Hendersonville, Hiddenite, Kings Mountain, Kinston, Monroe, Oxford, Salisbury, Statesville, Waynesville, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem.

Can you all tell what stores or location have the Multiplier Spectacular scratch off? I have not been able to find this game at any stores in my area. Are those last two 4million top prizes still out there or is this a misprint?NC Lottery
The prize count you see on the game page is accurate. You will notice that at all the other prize levels, the vast majority of prizes have been claimed. That's an indication that the game has almost sold out. The blog moderators do not have specific information about which stores still have tickets. There aren't that many out there.

We learned from our product development team that, while it is indeed possible to multiply a $2 prize space to a $40 or $50 win -- there are some non-winning tickets that have $2 prize spaces on them. We understand why players do not like that, and we do not expect for it to happen on any future games. But, as we said before, it remains true that the *minimum prize* that you can actually *win* on a $20 ticket is $20. We contacted our Prize Validation department last week and followed up with them today. As soon as they receive and process your letter we have asked them to contact communications blog moderators so that we can be informed about the status of your tickets.

The primary factor that goes into determining the date for a game-specific second-chance drawing is ticket sales. Ultimate Millions has been on sale for more than a year; three of its four $10 million prizes have been claimed and 15 of its 18 instant prizes of $1 million have been claimed. So, at this stage of each game's life, Ultimate Millions is not nearly as popular a game as Extreme Millions. As soon as we have the ticket sales information we need, a date will be set for the third and final Ultimate Millions drawing.

Lucke-Rewards drawings and game-specific second-chance drawings are like raffles. The more entries you make, the more chances you have to win. But there is never a guarantee of winning. There are already more than 349,158 entries for the January Jackpot drawing, and there were 318,149 entries for the $2000 Quick Cash drawing that is scheduled for Wednesday. We wish you luck!

The second chance drawing for extreme millions will be on May 5th 2017 with entry deadline on April 30th, 2017. Will this mean the game will be over or what and why has there not been a date set for ultimate millions by the way my husband and I have bought quite a few of each not as many as some though. I checked what is left on the extreme millions and all 4 10,000,000 are left and only 2 of the 1,000,000 have been won so when am I going to win one of these. Just kidding --not. Oh by the way I see where elabosha got one of the 4,000,000 platinum tickets also with 2.00 on it have you all received the two tickets I sent in the mail? If there was a multiplier on this ticket I did not see it nor my husband but if I missed it will you please send back to me need the money for other tickets.NC Lottery

QUESTION: I purchased a 4,000,000 PP.I didn't win on this ticket , but there were two payout value of $2.00. When I viewed the ticke ts value section there are no payouts for $2.00. Is this a faulty ticket? Who would want to win $2 from a $20 ticket? NC Lottery

Lots of people live in Charlotte and the Triad. But it's not easier to win the lottery there. There are just more people taking a chance to win. Ask a lottery player from Charlotte or the Triad! And take a look at the rest of that map, winners all over! :-)

Lucke-Zone: Which debit card can I use for purchases? I prefer not to do a checking account as the transactions takes too long. I've tried secu and well fargo debits but they declined. I spoke with the gaming people and your customer service a few months back but no luck with using my cards which I was able to use before. THX!!!!!!!!!NC Lottery

At this time, the lottery commission appointed by elected officials has only approved the sale of the games we currently have available via subscription services. It's possible in the future that more games will be available this way.
