On the first day of Carolina Keno, Carl Womack of Forest City turned a $20 Carolina Keno purchase into a $9,000 win. Want to know how?
Womack had never played Keno before, but decided to give it a try on Sunday at the 74 Junction on Springdale Drive in Forest City.
“I didn’t know what I was doing at first,” said Womack. “But the odds chart on the back of the play slip helped me decide how many spots to play. I knew I didn’t want to play one spot, so the spot with the next best odds was seven, so I played that.”
Womack bought 10 consecutive draws, playing the seven spot game, at $2 per draw. So the total for his purchase was $20.
“I thought I had only matched six of the seven numbers,” said Womack. “So I thought I had only won $200. But when the clerk scanned the ticket, a big horn came on and he told me, ‘You cannot cash that here, we don’t have that kind of money. You’re going to have to go to Asheville.’”
Womack stood in shock as the clerk told him the correct amount he had won.
“When he said $9,000,” said Womack. “I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it!”
While Womack was only playing $2 per draw, he matched all seven of his numbers. So the top prize in the seven spot game of $4,500 was multiplied by two. If he had played $10 per draw, $4,500 would have been multiplied by 10, and he would have won $45,000.
“I saw friends I hadn’t seen in months,” said Womack. “They were all playing Keno. We were laughing and having fun together. I think people will really like this game.”

I have been loving playing KENO....Thank You NCEL for KENO!!! I like to purchase my tickets at the store and then come home and check the tickets on the NCEL Website. I thought I might suggest a timer on the winning numbers Keno page that counts down every 5 mins. That would be AWESOME! I Will still play but just thought I'd suggest that.. ;) GOOD LUCK to ALL PLAYERS!!!!
