Big jackpots usher in 2018

The Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots are adding a bit more excitement to the New Year’s weekend as they each weigh in at more than $300 million.

Friday’s Mega Million jackpot is estimated at $306 million as an annuity, or $191.1 million cash. Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is even bigger, coming in at an estimated $384 million as an annuity, or $242.9 million cash.

Winning either would be a great way to ring in 2018.

The weekend marks only the second time when both games had jackpots of more than $300 million at the same time. The first time this happened was in August.

Here are some fun facts to keep in mind:

Six Mega Million jackpots have been won so far this year, ranging from $42 million to $393 million.
Two North Carolinians have won Mega Millions jackpots.
If the Mega Millions jackpot rolls again on Friday, it will break into the Top 10 list for Mega Millions jackpot. The current No. 10 weighs in at $326 million.
Seven Powerball jackpots have been won so far this year, ranging from $60 million to $758.7 million.
Four North Carolinians have won Powerball jackpots.

Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is the 14th largest in history and the 20th largest jackpot in the U.S.

Remember, there are nine ways to win when you play Powerball or Mega Millions. So even if you don’t hit the jackpot, your ticket could still be a winner. So please check your tickets carefully.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Just watch for an email. When you win, you will receive an email notifying you that you have won. For security purposes, we will not state the winning amount in the email. The amount will be displayed in your account in the Message Center.

I purchased a$50 keno ticket at Timberlake Mart on 01-02-18 and we had to go to Durham for my sister's doctor visit. When we came back through Timberlake we stopped at the same store so i could scan to see if I won. It came up not a winner and I thought it was strange not to win at least $5 since that is the least I have won on the 4 spot 10 draw $5 bet. Well when I got home I checked them on website and it had a $40 win so I am assuming something is wrong with their scanner. Someone needs to check this out because some serious money could be trashed. I called he mart to let them know their scanner may be on the fritz. NC Lottery

You then have the option of requesting a check or placing the winnings back into the designated financial account that successfully funded your wallet. Question: I was wondering if it mattered if you scanned your tickets in before the draw date do you still get full points on them as if to scan after an say the ticket won Two bucks you my have 5point instead of the 2points if entered before rather than later ?? NC Lottery
No. It does not make a difference in how many points you get if you scan your draw tickets and get your points before or after the drawing. The number of points awarded on each ticket will vary. An eligible ticket will earn at least the same number of points as the price of the ticket. For example, a $5 scratch-off ticket or a $5 Carolina Cash 5 purchase on one ticket will earn at least 5 points. However, sometimes tickets may earn MORE points as a bonus.

There are 4 unclaimed $500 rewards dating back to 10/18/17 and a $5k from 11/22/17. What gives? NC Lottery
All Lucke-Rewards winners have 30 days to claim their prizes. The lottery sends an email, makes a phone call and leaves a message, and mails a certified letter using the information in winners' Lucke-Rewards accounts. After 30 days, the prizes goes to an alternate and the process starts over. Some players don’t keep their account information current.
