February 8 is a day Frank Griffin of Asheville will never forget. It's the day he claimed a $141.4 million Powerball jackpot.

Griffin, a retired firefighter, stopped for gas early one morning at the Wilco on Smokey Park Highway. With $5 left in his pocket, he purchased a Powerball ticket. The decision turned out to be life-changing when he won the Feb. 6, 2010 jackpot. He said he would use his winnings to spend more time with his family and take a trip to Hawaii.

It's not easier or harder to win the lottery depending on where you live. We wish every ticket could be a winning ticket. But non-winning tickets is where prize money comes from. And all of the lottery's profits go to education. Good luck to you!

Debating on playing in future...I purchase Mega Millions, Powerball, etc for 26 consecutive drawings and never won a thing. I am glad someone is winning because I am thinking about not playing at all while seeing others carry on with gambling issues while playing. I might need to return to casino at least I won something. Thanks,for sharing your map of winners it looks like the winners are more spread out. I will keep playing knowing that most of the winnings are not prominently in the western part of the state. I purchased Mega Million and Powerball tickets at this very same Wilco Hess retailer in Asheville and never won a thing! I believe NCEL is pulling our leg and Frank Griffin is just another one of the paid publicity actors.NC Lottery

For tickets purchased in stores, you get one entry per Powerball ticket of $3 or more. So, to get five entries into the Power Cruise promotion, you would need to buy five separate $3 tickets.
