Playing the lottery can be a lot of fun. Winning on your favorite set of numbers or your favorite scratch-off can be even better. But playing too much can cause issues.
Each March, we partner with the National Council on Problem Gambling and the N.C. Problem Gambling Program to raise awareness of available resources to support someone who might show signs of problem gambling, whether it is caused by playing the lottery or any other type of gambling. The warning signs may include:
· “Chasing” losses in an attempt to break even
· Going without basic needs in order to gamble
· A preoccupation with gambling
· A need to bet more money more frequently
· Restlessness or irritability when attempting to stop
Have questions? Resources are available. Anyone can reach out to licensed professionals 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling, texting, or online chatting.
· Call: (877) 718-5543, a toll-free helpline
· Text: morethanagamenc to 53342
· Online Chat: www.morethanagamenc.com
Playing the lottery is fun. And most of our players enjoy lottery games without issue. But if there comes a time when you’re no longer having fun, it maybe be time to take a break.
