$496,189 Cash 5 ticket sold in Surry County

Someone who played Carolina Cash 5 in the small town of Dobson won a a big jackpot worth almost half a million dollars in Monday's drawing.

The lucky ticket, was the only one to match all five winning numbers, which were 3-10-16-25-34. It won the entire $496,189 jackpot.

The ticket was sold at the Need It Got It store on N.C. 268 in Dobson.

Big Winners

Winners have 180 days to claim prizes won in drawings.

The Cash 5 jackpot reset to $50,000 for Tuesday's drawing. Also heading into Tuesday night, the Mega Millions jackpot is a $140 million annuity ($83.3 million Cash). Then, Wednesday night, Powerball players have their chance to win the $155 million jackpot annuity ($92.4 million cash).

The question we get most often has to do with winner notification and winner announcements as it relates to Lucke-Rewards and promotional drawings. Winners are typically notified by email within 48 hours. So for a drawing held on a Wednesday, winners can expect a message by 5 p.m. Friday. If a winner does not respond to email notification, we will follow up with a telephone call and, if necessary, send certified mail.

On prizes of $600 to $4,999, the lottery is required to withhold the minimum 5.499% in state taxes. On prizes of $5,000 or more the lottery must withhold state minimum state taxes as well as minimum federal taxes of 25%.

Why do $3 tickets never win more than the price of the ticket? I have played and played the new bingo and crosswords and they never seem to win! They are no fun to play. Just a waste of time.NC Lottery

have there been many winners from Surry county to date? Don't remember seeing many. Congrats to the big winner ! Turbo..you are prob. thinking about Duplin. NC Lottery
We were uninformed about Dobson; turns out the biggest winery in the state is there. Duplin is also bigtime in that department.
